Baylor Continues Dominance of SMU in DFW MetroplexBaylor just got a commitment from their sixth TOP recruit from the DFW Metroplex. Lincoln LB Antonio Jones(offers from GT, Kansas St., Vandy, Kansas, Tulsa) committed to Baylor today. Others committing to Baylor from the Metroplex include LM Trey Bryant(offers Arizona, BYU, UH, MSU, SMU, among MANY others), WR Mikhail Baker -committed in early summer but still received offers from Maryland, Kansas, SMU, and Louisiana Monroe), LM-TE Jason Lamb (offers from Mississippi St., North Carolina, Wyoming, Tulsa), RB Cordney Smith (committed 7/24/04 and never considered other schools he without question would have received-3 star) and LM Jordan Hearvey (offers from Texas St. after early interest from KSU and Missouri).
Re: Baylor Continues Dominance of SMU in DFW Metroplex
Remember that statement when mocking an SMU commitment for not fielding more offers. There are some guys out there with strong character who make a commitment and stick to it, and discourage pursuit from others. With that said, Stallion's right - Baylor has gotten some good players.
Shouldn't they get better players than we do? Playing in the Big XII is much more appealing to a HS kid than anything we can offer.....especially when we've won 3 games in 2 years playing against La Tech and Tulsa. That's just the truth.
BaylorBaylor!!!!!????? Who on this Board really gives a rip about Baylor? If it hadn't been for Claytie Williams' big mouth, the ol' bag Ann Richards wouldn't have been elected Governor and Baylor wouldn't have been a member of the Big 12 (and possibly there wouldn't have even been a Big !2 as we know it today).
In 1989, when we came back from the DP (remember that Stallion - O' Great Sourse of All Knowledge), there were less than 2 minutes left in our game against the "mighty Bruins" when that "holier than thou" Head Coach (now the President of the AFCA) called a fake punt, put in a bunch of BU's first teamers against our freshmen and scored another TD to assure a 49 -7 victory for the "mighty Bears"(I may be wrong about the actual score Stallion since I don't have my Press Guide here at home to check - but I know I'm damn close if not right on) . I really care about how badly they've fared in the Big 12 and will continue to do so no matter who they recruit. They'll continue to be doormats as long as they're in that Conference - though they will make money. Like Forrest Gregg, I just look forward to the day when we redeem ourselves for what lowlife Teaff did in 1989, and we wip their worthless arces. And for those Bear fans reading this, I don't care. What you did in 1989 was about as Chicken s__t a move as I've ever seen in my life, and I'll never forget it. Maybe vengeance is a bad thing, but when it comes in this instance, it will feel mighty good! I'm confident that Coach Gregg and I (not to mention those fine young men who gave their best back then) feel that way. As far as recruiting is concerned, take a look at all of the non-qualifiers who BU has signed over the last 15 years. How many have even set foot on BU's football field? They've had some "great" classes on signing day, but for some reason they just don't manage to get the players qualified to play, and consequently they continue to do as they've done since they've been in the Big 12.

Baylor is restricted by Big 12 rules from taking partial qualifiers-and has been for years-so that point is totally irrelevant. Why should you care if Baylor beats us in recruiting? Because they are on our schedule in coming years and because we haven't beaten them since 1986. All I can say is that if some of you aren't concerned that we can't outrecruit Tulane, Tulsa and yes Baylor in our own backyard then you deserve another 15 years of losing.
Re:
I'm concerned, Stal, what can I do to fix this problem?
OKAY, I'll bite...you are concerned, I'm concerned, we are all concerned. So what do you do, I do or any of us do about it besides [deleted] about it on this board? What is the solution we are to attempt before next year's recruiting starts, since this year is pretty much done? We appreciate your pointing out all these many faults we have...day in and day out. The problem is you never present a solution, at least not one that any of us can initiate or make happen. Obviously, the pitiful masses we call SMU fans don't have one or we wouldn't be hearing from you so much about it. So, what is your solution? Run it up the flag pole and see if anyone salutes.
Until we go to a bowl we can't very well pitch anything more than Baylor does except to ask, "Do you really like Waco better than Dallas?" or say, "We let you have girls in your room, does Baylor?" And I"m sure Coach Bennett has made those points. We can't say, "At least at SMU, you get to go to a bowl game." They do have that Big XII thing going for them. We don't.
Please do not forget that for the first time in YEARS SMU is full of recruits - ALREADY.
We have 5 or so JUCO players and 7 BIG MEN. This is a pretty good class. I would say that if SMU had these types of classes every year we would have a winning record. WE ARE GETTING BETTER. and better ![]() ![]() Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re:
Oh, they can thank NBC and the olympics for the promo piece on Baylor 400m runners this summer. Also seeing 2 runners win gold this past summer and that Michael Johnson dude I'm sure was appealing. He will be a good FB player, but has the ability to be an all-world track guy.
baylor vs smu recruiting?some of you are behind the curve on the current college football caste system. a glance at the dmn state top 100 last sunday showed that there are NO commitments from the state 100 recruits to non-BCS schools. (news flash, smu is non bcs). As in NADA and NONE. further, in the top 50 of the area listing there is only one or two commitments to non-bcs schools. BCS has the tv contracts (where kids will get "big time" exposure) and BCS has the big bowls locked up (where the cartel gets the highest payouts and more tv exposure). what SMU needs is to get recruiting classes that will allow us to compete for conf usa championships and SOME bowl bids. therefore, how we are not getting the kids who go to Baylor (please note: bcs school) is not relevant at this time. somebody tell stallion non bcs schools are not GOING to be recruiting the rivals top 100, 5.9768 stars this year.
I would like to see some analysis of how we are doing against othr conference usa schools in recruiting since we have to play them 7-8 times a year for a while. right now, coach has to get some (any) combination of jc and freshman-to-be players (from anywhere: recruiting really well in the metroplex is a future step) so we can compete first of all in the league we now play in. that has to happen FIRST before we can start chatting about how we are recruiting against the baylors of the world, as we are not in that universe yet. so, I gather tulsa must be having a pretty good year in the metroplex--how are we doing ![]()
