Sounds like Jones made a decision last week and not in the heat of battle, so it must be academic reasons. Good for him. Much more important that they be ready academically for next year than at Spring Practice.

Jones said the players are eligible and it was his decision not to have them participate in practice. He said they will return - though the timetable is unknown.

While both have starred throughout their SMU careers, each has been suspended previously. Johnson was suspended for poor practice habits his freshman season; Reed for losing his temper in a loss at Southern Miss last year.

Kinda hard to decipher the message. Is it "kicked out" as in they were at practice and removed after a stern lecture and example to the rest of the team or they just arent' at practice while taking care of other issues or coach making it look like they are being penalized for missing workouts when in actuality they wouldn't be doing anything anyway since the staff doesn't want to risk injury to two very good veteran players? Seems spring would be important to any receiver with a new receiver coach and new ideas so it must mean we will be doing the same offensively as we did last year in the passing game.

Sounds like Jones wants to make notice and set an example for the youngsters of the necessity to keep the grades in focus. DJ and Taylor can probably use the time wisely and let the coaches work the players who need more coaching and practice reps.

They will both be ready and on the field when it is time to ROCK Baylor...
