She would never be able to handle the strength of a college player yet alone a high school player. She'd get pushed around. Then as others have mentioned the speed and leaping ability don't compare. I was a very average high school basketball player that could barely dunk a ball, I'm 5'10". If I was 6'8" like Brittney I would have been able to put on a show and no one would be putting my two handed dunk on Sport Center.

Here's an article talking about how UConn's women's basketball team practices against guys.

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/co ... 463082.htm

"Because men, at least those who gravitate to competitive round ball, are generally built bigger, stronger, and faster than women, teams use them as a form of overload training. It's like wearing ankle weights when running."

These guys are the same playing intramural or pick up games around campus. Not terrible but definitely not the best bball players and most of them would not sniff the court for Kimball even at 20 years old.

The SMU womens team practices against guys, which include some former high school and college varsity players

My vertical leap brings down the men's average.

By the way, my timing really sucked on the initial post. Didn't realize the game was last night. I hate to take anything away from this impressive season.

Irregardless, for all intensive purposes, women's physicality just cain't keep up with a man.

Really? I ask if she has been gender tested, a huge issue in women's sports for the dominant players, and it gets deleted!?

why don't you email her parents who were sitting in the stands last night. I am sure her Dad would love to come over to your house and have a conversation with you.

I doubt they would flinch. They've heard the same questions thousands of times by now and probably multiple times per day at this point. Even the head coach has had to come out in her defense.

Any decent HS boys team would run the 40-0 Lady Bears out of the gym.

Brittany Griner wouldn't walk on to one D1 hoops team in the country, unless it was a publicity stunt.

Kudos to the mods for removing a couple of tasteless remarks... whatever you think about Griner's appearance, she's doesn't deserve the shots people are taking at her.

Recruits and their families read this board, let's try to remain civil.

Yes.

Mia Hamm wouldn't make a varsity Div-II NCAA men's team. She's not near fast enough. Or strong enough.

The differential in speed in incredible.

Can she play? Run the court? Sure, no problem. She could "hold her own" out there, and not look stupid in pick up games.

Start for a 5A boys HS team? Not. What position would she play? Small forward? a 6' HS point guard would stuff her repeatedly. She would never have the strength to back inside. She would get stripped of the ball the second she put it on the floor.

Don't forget that an "in her prime" martina Navratilova barely beat a 50 year old man, and he had to use the double's court vs. her single's court.

Don't forget the women's basketball is significantly smaller than a men's (i.e., easier to make the basket)...she probably couldn't dunk a men's ball, but I can't say whether she could palm it...or get it above the rim. Dunno on that.

I have no idea of why I'm chiming in on this topic but I will give it a go. Griner is a phenomenal athlete. Male or female, I would love to have an athlete of her caliber on the Hilltop. Given the ease with which she is able to dunk, I doubt she would have difficulties dunking a men's basketball. Particularly with two hands as she would not need to palm the ball--which is something I'm sure she could do. And if we really need to compare female athletes to men, let's at least give them credit for their accomplishments. The world record in long jump is not 16' and change. It's actually 7.52 meters or 24' 8 1/4". In his or her prime, not a single person on this board could do that.
