I know they have an outstanding track program, but there are a lot of outstanding track programs that also have outstanding football programs that also happen not to be located in Waco, TX.....they are really doing a great job recruiting there, all things considered
Re:
yeah, your correct overall they are actually doing a darn good job. But specifically in the Gettis case, the fact he has won the CA 400m the past two or three years and looks to do it again this year was very influential in him chosing Quartermiler U.
sorry stallion. didn't mean to criticize you. you are obvioulsly not among those who come on this board expecting us to outrecruit the southwest conference state schools and the big twelve all the sudden. and your posts add a lot to the info we need. if tulsa is beating baylor that is really good, for them. kind of amazing since tulsa didn't seem to have a real talent edge on the field this year, when we beat em. now that we are a week or so away from signing, i'd like to begin hearing what you and the other recruiting watchers can tell us about how we stack up to uh, rice, utep, tulane and the others in our conference.
I will tell you and I have not even glanced at Rivals or any other recruiting service. We are behind those schools and have been for the last few years. Forget the rankings. Look at the talent on the field. Rice killed us last year. Obviously they are getting better players. UTEP beat us and went to a bowl game. UTEP does not have restrictive rules like SMU so they are able to recruit from a larger pool of recruits. Hence, they get better players. We barely beat Tulsa last year. They went to a bowl game the year before. They have more talent and less restrictive rules like UTEP. Again, they typically are getting better players. Tulsa even took several players from the D/FW area SMU offered...enough said. Houston, Tulane, La. Tech, all non-BCS schools are whipping us on and off the field. I will keep repeating this common theme until you 'sunshiners' get it....SMU will not compete with our competition until SMU changes its ways. Again, SMU will not compete with our competition unitl SMU changes its ways. Let's all say it together. Bennett can spin it, Copeland can spin it, the old-timers can spin it while they are talking about how great Doak Walker and Eric Dickerson were, Turner can spin it. I have heard all the bs before and I cannot wait to hear it again this year. It don't matter folks. Expect more losing unless changes are made. Period. The end. Good night. Holla!
Re:
I hear ya, Dwan. Geddis may run the 400 @ Beijing in 2008. But, IMO, he will not be playing at BU at that time. He will discover the culture shock that is W A C O. Coming from LA, no less. Hide & watch.
Re:
I can't wait for that day, either. Unfortunately, if we said as much, you'd rip us a new one because our academic standards are so high, we should not "expect SMU to outrecruit Baylor, Tulsa, TCU, and Tulane on its own home turf." At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
ponyfan, what's gotten into you? surely you realize its only the lack of "fan expectations" that allow big twelve teams to dominate us!
Until we start offering PE as a major, we will have trouble recruiting kids from DISD. Right now the problem is keeping the kids we do recruit in school. Even if we got the top commits, they won't last long. Look at Marcus Mosely. He didn't even make it to class! Baylor had a great recruiting class when they got Ben Gay. Too bad he didn't play a down for them. NOT ONE DOWN!!! (As a matter of fact, I believe almost half that class never qualified, which REALLY hurt Baylor's competitiveness in the Big 12.) It doesn't do us any good to get the kid into school just to see him flunk out after his redshirt year. Then again, it doesn't help out the kid if he wastes 4-5 years and gets a degree in a worthless subject that won't help him out later in life! We should follow USC's and Miami's examples for class offerings since both schools appear to get results!
Re:
So you're basing your opinions on what .... tarot cards?
No, what's obvious is that they played a lot better, or that the matchups favored the Owls. You'd trade our last two recruiting classes for theirs? You're nuts.
Don't let the facts fet in the way of JR's postings. He is a loser.
Yes, SMU has a few more hurdles then some of the powderpuff schools - and I am for getting rid of all of them - we seem to be moving that way - and I also wish it were faster - but to post this incessent junk is the mark of a loser - one who cannot overcome obstacles in their way because they are mentally weak and lazy. Fortunately that does not describe our university, its team, our coaching staff or us - just one miserable twit.
I guess I am a loser then. At least I have a lot of money in my bank account to make me feel better about myself. It is hard being a loser. But at least I do not keep my head up the athletic department's rear like you do. Will you please tell everyone how SMU will go to bowl games and win conference championships like your buddies in the athletic department do.
Re:
No, he's looking at something much more reliable--historical results on the field. What are you basing your counter-opinions on, sunshiner?
