NAME THE ALL-TIME SMU FOOTBALL TEAM

Post by leopold »

Okay, killers, let's find out how knowledgeable you all are at SMU football - name your all time SMU football team!

Is your starting QB going to be Lance or Don? Got room in your backfield for a 3rd RB? Who's the starting D-Line? Anybody wanna go out on a limb and pick David you-know-who as your starting LB? Who's the coach?

The more ambitious of you may go with both a 1st and 2nd string. If your really a stud go with a 3rd.

Positions:
QB
RB
RB
OT
OT
OG
OG
C
WR
WR
WR/TE/RB

DE
DE
DT
DT/NG
LB
LB
LB
DB
DB
DB
DB

K
P
KR
PR

Head Coach

Let's see how much you know about SMU football!

I am not ambitious enough to give all positions. But I will have Louie Kelcher, and Robert Popelka on my defense and Dickerson, Dandy Don, and Gary Hammond on my offense. Hixson would be alternating at QB.

EDIT!!!!!

***I got distracted and left off Jerry Levias who was definitely my first choice but I was going to make an indivdual remark about him and then stepped away and forgot. My apologies for the oversight.***

Impressive List, Stallion. I might find room for Raymond Berry, Kyle Rote and Hayden Fry. I especially like the multiple Jerry Levias choices in many of the positions.

Raymond Berry had an unspectacular SMU career

I must disagree with Stallion on Raymond Berry. I feel he does deserve consideration. He was an Academic All-American (As was Levias, LaGrone, May and Schonke), All-SWC and played in the Shiner's East-West game. Also, Berry had a reputation in college of never dropping a ball either in practice or a ball that he could get his hands on. Also Berry was stuck in stupid during the Chalmers Woodard’s era of nonsensical offense.

I thought some of you would say Michael Carter or Jerry Ball-both better than Harvey Arnstrong in the NFL but not in College. SMU was stout during Armstrong's Jr and Sr years-not so stout when he graduated. Wes Hopkins would be another you could throw in there at Safety and slide Russell Carter to CB over Rod Jones

Stallion has it about right...I would have suggested Eddie Garcia as PK, and Rote has to find a home as well, somewhere. Jerry Ball was an ANCHOR in that line...much of those stout defenses centered around the fact that he occupied more than one blocker v. the Wishbone or Veer.

Looking this over just emphasizes again the rich tradition SMU has in football...

I was going to say Ball and Carter, but I wasn't around for Armstrong.

Hellestrae for long snapper?
