I honestly don't get it. The guy isn't that much younger than Larry Brown and has serious health issues. If SMU is going this route, it might as well go with Brown.

While his health is a concern he is 8 years younger than brown and is currently coaching college. Brown has been out of college hoops for years. Far better idea than brown in my opinion.

On the plus side, he should be familiar with our program from our days in the WAC with Utah. I sure hope this isn't another Buzz Williams situation (using SMU's offer to leverage an extension or raise from his current school).

He has a hell of a team coming back next year at SLU, but without an extension he should bolt if given the chance.

It's going to be tough to get him to move since SLU has all but one starter returning next year. And, I believe they won either one or two rounds in the NCAA tourney, beating Memphis in the first round. Just saw a clip of him addressing the crowd at SLU. They have a very impressive arena/facility. One other positive, he'll just have to change the "L" to an "M" to update his shirts.

I find it hard to believe that a man of that age would leave such a good and promising team for more money and a complete rebuilding job at SMU. Maybe SO and co. can lift their skirts and woo him? I hope it happens but I'm not about to get excited just yet.

We also got permission to talk to Buzz.


Apparently, RM is only paid 750k and he had to use some of his own money to pay assists and even some travel. No jet access. Doesn't get along with his boss. In his last year of his contract and AD hasn't offered an extension yet. Said he took the SLU job to be close to his mom, who is no longer alive.

But he has a really good team coming back, a really great recruit signed and might just be using us to negotiate his extension. We shall see.
