Yes, this is a PR problem. This is making SMU look like a Micky Mouse organization. As far as I am concerned, this is starting to negatively impact the perception of SMU athletics as a whole. On the heels of the June to ASU debacle and the collapse of the recruiting class, this is not helpful. 3 consecutive bowl games and my interest in Spring football couldn't be less.

Yep, perception wise it does not help that this long search came on the heals of the ASU fiasco.

I think the whole not being relevant in men's football and basketball for 25 years by being one of the least successful division one school's in the revenes sports probably did more negative things from a PR standpoint than this search. I actually think from a PR pov, most people in college basketball and in the sports world are saying, wow, look at smu, they are really getting serious about trying to land a big name coach so they can compete in the Big East. With June Jones, a few minor bowl wins, the big east, and know being willing to pay for and trying to land a name coach.....i think the PR spin is hey, smu is at long last getting serious.

I'd be fine with Larry Brown, Scott Sutton, Rick Majerus, etc. I'm not too bothered by the long search, but if one of these guys wants the job then offer it to them! Don't wait for the one that is stalling unless he is a much better option. Majerus is not that much better than Larry Brown, both are old.

When Orsini waited for Dickerson to deliver June Jones to him, everyone assumed the SMU football world was ending. Less than two years later, we were in Hawaii and June Jones was Vince Lombardi in the eyes of many PonyFans.

Not to interrupt the knee-jerk reactions, but assessing the search can't be done until we see who gets the job and what is done with it.

That's nonsense. This search is a national debacle regardless of its outcome. The list and the process were clown shoes. The amex black card may pull our asses out of the fire, but that's on boosters, not the savvy of the guys running the search. At this point, we've pissed off locals, become a laughingstock in grassroots, and will have to overpay every single candidate. The process matters, as does the end goal.

roach- And so who do think will pull the bbal search out of the fire? Jim Krebs- reincarnated??

This search is not at all like the fball search was. No need to try and compare it. IIRC the only person who passed on the fball job was Paul johnson. How many have butt-slapped us on bball offers or consideration? 10,15, 20? Who knows but it isn't pretty.

Obviously, you don't get it. There's nothing to knee-jerk about this when the search that's more than one month old and people are laughing at are incompetence. Who are you to define when something is knee jerk and something is not?

The criticism is warranted.
