Just a week ago when I said we needed to make a decision soon, everyone said it's okay to take our time with the search. Now everyone is hitting the panic button. I still think a decision needs to be made this week so as not to put us at a disadvantage for recruitment, assessment and changes of current team, securing top assistants, etc.

CBG- this committee has pondered their navel for over a month. Do you really think they are capable of finding the next 'great' candidate and hiring him in two or three days? very doubt

I wonder how many, if any, of the big money men have pulled out of this search because of the RGT/SO screw-ups.

PR damage

Postby SMU Football Blog » Thu Apr 12, 2012 10:59 am

The national college basketball guys are all mentioning SMU on twitter and it is not positive. This search is negatively tarnishing the name of who we ultimately do get, which will discourage some candidates. As I said in another thread, i feel like this search is beginning to have a negative effect on the overall SMU athletics brand.

Oregon had a protracted 41 day search last year. It was labeled a "debacle." They wound up hiring creighton's Dana Altman, which was a good hire. (They lost in the 3rd round of the nit this year) However, they had to give him a 7 year guaranteed deal worth $12.6M. Oregon just built a $200M basketball complex.

We ain't Oregon.

We sure are lucky.
