Thompson to be Drated as a TE?

On Path to the Draft tonight (NFL Network), Mayock predicted that Thompson will be drafted as a tight end because the draft is so thin at the position and his measurables look good. He noted that he was playing the position at his pro day and was a receiver in high school.

Yeah, that's the position he was advised to work towards. Physical freak who has had some questions about desire. No idea about his hands, though he did play TE in high school at a very high level.

Before he changed his commitment to SMU, he was committed to Vandy as a TE

Yes, I think he will make a great TE. Great speed and strong. Would hate to have to tackle him after he caught the ball...

I've been watching Thompson since he was a freshman in High School. Coming from a High School that was run oriented, he did not get an impressive number of balls thrown to him. I can tell you that a very high percentage of balls that came his way were caught and defending against him was a nightmare. In 7on7 he was a lock when the ball came his way. His hands are fantastic! He's a great fit at the professional level. He'll light it up for the team that drafts him at tight end. I wish him all the best at the next level.

49ers converted DE from UCF to FB last season and it worked out great for both

Gill Brandt's assessment after the SMU pro-day was that he was a 3d to 4th round TE pick.
