I hope the idea is to bring in Brown and a top assistant to be hciw. Build a great staff and when Brown 'retires' there would be continuity. If you were an assistant would you not want to learn from a HOF coach with many 'skins' on the wall?

I think benford is learning from a good coach now... Key is giving him a raise and a near-certain opportunity in the big east 3-4 years from nowR

hard for me to picture Larry Brown coaching in Moody with 2500 people in the stands. The honeymoon will end quickly, we are still playing in CUSA next year, in a dilapidated Moody, and with a team that doesn't look very strong next year.

I like the young successor in waiting idea. This was what i suggested 6 years ago to rehab the position instead of hiring Doh.

I think Brown would generate a lot of interest and hence much larger crowds. Again, he would need wins to keep the enthusiasm up with both the team and the fans.
Winning and positive pub would do wonders for this program.

Very much in favor of LB coming on board.
You would think the best assts in the land would be climbing over each other to be on the staff.
All season we said we have good players but they were being coached down.
Turn them over to a seasoned pro and let's see what happens.
Being in CUSA one last year would be an advantage - a chance to build and coach them up for a year before diving into the Big East.

The main problem has been zero talent and [deleted] Poor recruiting

I don't see how a 71 year old coach who has no ties to dfw coaches changes that.

Orsini wants a big headline but doesn't care about winning.

Dumb hire.

And smu will finish in the gutter in cusa next year.

The big east beat downs are going to be comical for the first few years.

A two year coach who won't be here long enough to benefit from a massive rebuild is [deleted].

If a young guy pulls it off he can write his ticket to a big job. Larry brown is doing this Bc he's bored and wants something to do.

But hey front page of espn for 24 hours is totally worth it.

At least the football team will be solid in the big east.

We will have to see about that once we get there.

I wouldn't use last year as a great barometer of our capabilities. Those guys were all but coached to lose. Expect a completely different line-up, offensive rebounding and offensive plays that aren't 5-guys-standing-around-the-key.

Yes, there is no question that this team had more talent than they showed. The style of play did not fit the players strengths. A good coach can fix that.

Give me someone that can recruit in Dallas and I'm happy.

I'm good on spares from eastern Europe

Doh left this program in shambles.

This is a huge rebuilding job. not a hobby to pass a few years.

Orsini will probably waste 2 mil a year on Larry brown.

Oh well

so I looked up Marquette roster and only 2 from Wisconsin. the rest from all over. We're looking at their assistant or brown. OK, so recruiting in DFW is important but many teams can build NCAA contenders without local talent. If he can recruit DFW great, if not, go all over the USA. That said, I want Larry Brown and if he's here for 2 years and finishes .500 in cusa then .500 in BE that would be an improvement. Also, stop scheduling teams we never heard of. Let's step it up. SO padded the schedule for DOH and that is boring and produced bland basketball.

I'm not for the Brown hire really, but you are spewing a bunch of junk that makes no sense this last page. SMU has been a top 4 or 5 recruiting team in CUSA the last two years. In CUSA terms, this is far from a bad team talent-wise, just was coached down. Add two top 100 kids in Blaise & Nick Russell, not to mention an NYC sniper like Bernardi, and things will be fine next year. Just play a style that makes sense for the roster.

Obviously, needs work for Big East play, but don't mistake what we saw last year, for the state of the program. Its in decent to good shape.
