Posted Yesterday, 04:37 PM--From Toad board SMU should put all of the eggs in the basketball basket. Put more money into making facilities top notch. They have a big name coach, that some HS kids may be giddy about, and have Big East basketball to boast, even if the future is grim. Might as well shove it all in on basketball because football isn't going to go anywhere in the BE Somebody remind these idiots we cooked those eggs in our shiny iron skillet.

one year ago today, they were still on course to head to the Big East, and proud of it as i recall.

true, but while the conference still has the same name, it has a very different makeup in schools. I think this was an great hire, and may really work out for you guys. It will be fun to watch

I'll be the first to admit that the new Big East lost some big names, but in my eyes, it gained a lot better football-centric teams in Boise, Houston, SDSU, and UCF. I would almost always pick those 4 schools in a match up against Pitt or Syracuse (definitely not WVU, but Boise vs. WVU could go ether way these last few years). Maybe the conference will build a decent football reputation, that's all we can hope for.

would you expect them to be happy about this ? - put yourself in the shoes of a great dallas area recurit - hey - do you want to play in crappy DMC, for a coach that was 500 last year nobody has even heard of, in a middle of the road basketball conference,.....or - do you want to play for one of the best coaches in the history of the game, in Dallas, in a new world class facility, in the best basketball conference in the country?
is that even close to a decision?

while i think you are probably right, I'll be interested to see who gets the better recruits. It doesn't seem like we have been after the same kids the last few years, and neither school has a stranglehold on DFW hot talent. Hell, if either of us gets one kid of the top 25 in DFW, that has to be considered a win.

Not being able to compete in the Big East in football? Hmmm, let me see now, if recall correctly the Mighty Mustangs made minced meat out of a Big East team in the Compass Bowl. But I may be mistaken.

And we made minced meat out of a certain team 40 miles to the west of us.

Didn't we let them come back and take the game into overtime?

We did, but just to create some drama and up the TV ratings
