No doubt he's a very good athlete. His Long Jump and 300 Hurdles times would be competitive at a DFW 5A level even though he plays 1A. 23' 1 " LJ is especially impressive for a Junior(No. 22 best jump in Texas-all Classes according to Dye Stat) His best time in the 300 Hurdles was as a Sophmore at 1A State Meet last year when he ran 38.37 which was the 33rd best time in Texas-this year his best time is 39.66 which is ranked 68th best in Texas. I'd like to see his times improve in 110 Hurdles and maybe compete in the Sprints before I believe he definitely has 4.4 speed. I mean if he ran a 4.4 you'd think he'd win just about every 1A meet on the schedule but I don't think he competes in the sprints as far as I can tell. Maybe he gets tired doing the LJ, Triple Jump and Hurdles.

Looks like a true freshman punt returner to me. Great speed getting to the outside.

How does our current recruiting compare to last year? I have not kept up at all this year. I am not interested in the details and do not have time to read through rivals so a very broad answer would be much appreciated.

So far picking up right where we left off in January-3 commits none of which have offers from other schools

The only silver lining is that it is still sort of early and these kids could pick up other offers as opposed to grabbing kids in January that have one offer.

Stallion is correct about the same scenario, i.e. picking up where we left off with offers to kids that haven't rec'd from others. But in defense, I was following the kid from Lago Vista (can't remember name) whom we offered first at about the same time last year. He may have had one other offer from Wyoming. But as time went on, he rec'd offers from several major D1 schools. Eventually committing to Missouri, then decommitting and going to Houston. There have been others of the same ilk, i.e. early offers from us, but with later offers from others. Long winded statement condensed, I'm not worried.

Dee Paul jumped a personal best of 23' 8"" at the Regional Track Meet last weekend-shattered his personal record of 23' 1"". That's a seriously competitive long jump. 14th ranked Long Jump in Texas in 2012-all Classifications. I don't think we've had a guy jump that far in decades around here. I think I remember that Ronald Morris broke 24 Feet in the 1980s.

Thanks for keeping us updated on this stuff. I really appreciate it. Can be difficult to compare football stats for kids who play at various levels and systems, but track and field results do not depend on the quality of the competition so they are a great way to see just how athletic someone is.
