Jankovich not on board yet?

Postby bubba pony » Sat Apr 21, 2012 12:08 pm

per Kate.

he is offered $477,000 per year to stay at ISU with an offer from SMU at $800,000/5 years. At SMU he'll be in the best Basketball conference in the nation, and he's still thinking about it? maybe this guy is playing us for a raise at ISU or maybe he's stupid and we should look for another HCIW.
can anyone clarify what's going on?

I think I saw it mentioned in one of the articles about all this that the current highest paid assistant is making like 300k at Maryland. And Jankovich is not sure if he wants to make more than DOUBLE that to work as HCIW under Larry freaking Brown? As pointed out above, he would make more as 2-3 year assistant here than he would at his current job. AND he'd inherit a Larry Brown program in the Big East.

Maybe he is scared that this whole program will drag his name down and he'll have an easier time jumping to a big name program after a few more years of success at ISU.

Either way, I've got to think there's someone else out there who could fill the same role.

My guess is it's basically a done deal and they are just hammering out the fine print.

Get somebody that wants to be here. We shouldn't have to buy a coach to be HCIW under LB and all the opportunities that we offer.

He's got a ton coming back on his team next year and Illinois State is widely expected to be in the tournament. My guess is that if we tried to hire him for this same position one year from now, he wouldn't even think about it

Per Scout it appears that he quietly signed a new 5 year deal with ISU that was not publically announced. Based on that new committment he is out recruiting. Problem is that some people really have loyalty and are in situation in which they are very comfortable and appreciated. It is my belief that he is really torn between his loyalty and committment and the $$$ and opportunity offered at SMU. Not sure of his family situaltion.

You see I read that differently. That story appears that he signed it a while back before all of this stuff with Brown surfaced. As their SID said, "we just don't announce that kind of thing.''

And I think you know well enough that Jankovich may have said he went on a recruiting trip, but unless somebody spots him at an AAU tournament and reports, take that company line at face value.

On that big recruiting weekend in December when June met with Arizona State officials at DFW Airport, where did June tell people he was going? --- Food for thought.

Per the Peoria newspaper, Jankovich was extended back in March.
