LB loyalty

It occurs to me that we might get the benefit of Larry Brown trying to distance from his image, or re-make it. He is known as the ultimate job hopper and is getting all sorts of questions on it. I'm sure he doesn't like that image very much and doesn't want it to be such a big part of his legacy. We'll see but he might just settle in here for 4 or 5 years. If he does well, maybe he leaves after 3 for one last hurrah somewhere bigger. Either way, we should benefit in the end. We just have to get through next year. One final year in a dilapidated Moody with a boring CUSA schedule and limited roster experience.

Good point, plus he knows he only has a few years left anyway. Let's hope he gets it turned around quick.

I believe he feels like he has something to prove. I think the debacle in Charlotte gnawed at him and he didn't want to close it out this way. Plus, I just get the sense that this is his last job. No NBA team would likely look at him for its bench -- maybe in some consultant role. But I can't see him going to a front office NBA job either.

If you think about it, this is perfect for him. He will work his butt off to make this successful, be energized by a young staff, and kinda throw around that elder statesman's position who knows how to get it done. He may touch younger kids better than we may give him credit for.

BTW, MM was right that Moody will begin it's redo in August. They are going to do the outside and the after the season is over for 2012-2013 they will work inside. The opening will be the 1st Big East game in January, 2014.

I didn't realize it would take 2 seasons.

My feeling is that LB is simply sick of the pro game based on the fact that the coach has so much bureaucratic administration over his head that it severely impacts coaching, continuity, player contracts, player trades/selection. It is hard to belive the total garbage he had to put up with under Isiah Thomas and the disfunctional Dolan's when he was with the Knicks. He says nothing polsitive about Carolina describing Michael Jordan's heirarchy as "clueless" and giving him negative attention even when he took them to the playoffs in his first year. Self from Kansas laughinly joked that he need to find LB something to do as he spent so much time at Kansas practices. By his own admission, he is at Villanova practices every day. He is a gym rat basketball junkie and given the opportunity to be his own boss again and run a program the way he wants is his ideal situation. My impression is that he will hunker down and stay for at least 5 years if not more if the the family adjusts. He wants the challenge of building a winner and SMU gives him the ideal situation to be the boss, be close to his fiends in the pro game and be the teacher, coach, basketball junkie he wants to be.

PoconoPony, I totally agree that LB's return to coaching college ball due to his frustrations with the NBA is a clear choice for him. I'm sure the university setting and college atmosphere will be a huge positive for him.

Biz -- Any competitor feels like he has something to prove regardless of how accomplished he has been. Larry's record speaks for itself, but as I said I think the mess in Charlotte ate at him and he didn't want his career to be marked with a flameout.

Who knows his motivation. If you aren't challenging yourself to be better, then you don't grow -- or did you miss that day while at the business school.
