NFL Draft predictions for SMU players
OK, where are our guys going to go?
JOSH LeRIBEUS
Third round: Minnesota Vikings
Purple People let Steve Hutchinson go and need help at guard, preferably of the quick, athletic kind.
TAYLOR THOMPSON
Fourth round: Dallas Cowboys
Maybe he can be what Martellus Bennett wasn't -- a big, athletic receiving tight end.
KELVIN BEACHUM, JR.
Fifth round: Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta uses old Denver system with smaller, active offensive linemen. Beach will slide inside to guard.
RICHARD CRAWFORD
Seventh round: Oakland Raiders
He grew up in San Diego Chargers country, but Oakland needs help in the secondary, where he'll join Bryan McCann, and the Raiders love fast DBs who can play contribute on special teams, too.
Undrafted free agents:
Cole Beasley: New England Patriots
Chris Banjo: Green Bay Packers

I've seen several places mention that Houston has interest in Banjo as well.

Very exciting to see multiple Mustangs considered for NFL draft choices. It has been a long time.

Walterfootball.com has Josh, TT, and Kelvin all getting drafted.

Re: NFL Draft predictions for SMU players
I might be in the minority here, but I think we only have Josh and TT get drafted. Beachum will have a chance being an interior lineman, but I think he is going to have to make a team as a UFA. Often times it works out better that way because you gain a little amount of flexibility to put yourself in the best situation to make a team.

I really think Banjo's gonna do well at the next level. It'd be sweet to see Taylor in a Cowboys uniform.

After watching Banjo for 4 years, he will need to greatly improve his cover skills...

And grow 4 inches taller and 25 pounds heavier. I love what he did for us and wish him luck. I know the burning desire is there. However, I am afraid the tangibles will outweigh the intangibles.PonyPlayer4 wrote:After watching Banjo for 4 years, he will need to greatly improve his cover skills...

Re: NFL Draft predictions for SMU players
Beasley will make a roster somewhere. The dude can flat out bring it.
Re: NFL Draft predictions for SMU players
Would love to see Beas in NE as a complement to Welker. I think he fits their system very well. Regardless, best of luck to all these guys. I love the fact that the concept of SMU players going to the next level is no longer a pipe dream. I'm also liking the whole "another year, another Mustang playing in the Super Bowl" theme we've had going on the past few years!

Re: NFL Draft predictions for SMU players
I wonder if Beasley could replace Welker? There were comments out of New England this week suggesting that Welker, as great as he has been, could be replaced because of age and financial reasons, so they can save money for young guys like Gronkowski, etc. The Pats are great at manipulating the salary cap ... should be interesting to watch.
Good luck to all of the Mustangs this week!
For what it's worth (and I don't know enough to guess rounds), our players would fit well in:
Thompson: New England
Beachum: Jacksonville
LeRibeus: Washington
Banjo: Seattle
Beasley: New England
Crawford: Buffalo

I used to get pissed when people said he was a Welker-type player. Until he said that he tries to model his game after Welker. Really gonna miss that guy on the field on Saturdays.RyanSMU98 wrote:Would love to see Beas in NE as a complement to Welker. I think he fits their system very well.
