Transfers/Recruits - LB Era?

Postby Digetydog » Fri Apr 27, 2012 12:32 pm

Given the new openings on the roster, I was wondering if there have been any credible rumors out there of guys coming into our program.

If we get Laken to retweet them, do they become credible?

Love how Hoopmanx took him down on the TCU/SMU tweet.

LB is current checking with his NBA scout buddies to see which JUCOs he should make offers.

What does this mean? You don't feel Brown is capable on his own? You dont like his asst choices? Long live Doh? Leave tHe roster as is? This program has made more progress this week than we have since the mid-90s and its not close...

I read it as him saying Brown has great connections with NBA scouts and is asking their opinions about who the best available juco players are. Really don't see the negative implication you seemed to assume. Not everything here has to be viewed as an opportunity for a spat.

My bad if that's the case - not interested in a "spat" just not sure nba scouts are the best resources for Juco talent, think Howard and the rest of the staff are more knowledgeable in that area. Point being for the first time in at least 20 plus years we have a staff in place to evaluate and compete with the big boys and it's a beautiful thing....

How did you read my post as negative? I was commenting on the NBA connections that LB has. I never said he was incompetent or that his assistants were uninformed. My comment strictly meant he has lots of connections, even outside the college ranks.

My only negative against LB, at this point, is it has been a long time since he has been involved in a college program. I hope he is relying on his assistants to get back in the game.

You guys make me laugh!

This reminds me of an incident last football season where Laken showed up to practice after it was all over and asked one of our guys if a certain injured player was at practice. Our reporter replied that, "Yes, the player was at practice today."

Evidently she misinterprited that, because later that afternoon I get a text from a PonyFan about a story Laken wrote about that player. She posted that the player looked good at practice, seemed to run and cut well, performed admirably in drills, etc.

The player in question WAS at practice... But in street clothes. We had a nice chat with him over on the "sidelines" in fact.

Here is the retweat of Laken's:

Of course RT @LakenLitman: Some SMU players may not see scholarships renewed under Larry Brown come fall, according to multiple sources

Dan Wolken ‏ @DanWolken Close
Larry Brown is only going to be there for what, 2, 3 years? He doesn't have time to let the bad players Doherty recruited cycle through.

If you are talking about the Hoopmanx exchange, I got it wrong, he said NTSU made a better coaching choice than us. Here is that tweat and Hoopmanx's reply:
Dan Wolken ‏ @DanWolken · Open
No surprise, but North Texas made a better hire than SMU.

Hoopmanx ‏ @Hoopmanx Close
@DanWolken So a guy that's never been a head coach is better than a HOF head coach, the only guy w/rings at both college & pro levels?
