Publicity--SMU has already benefited from an increase in publice exposure. With Coach Brown, every move will be made public, the good and the bad. We are just going to have to accept it.
Personnel Cuts--It is always tough to let people go. The only proper way is to do it quickly and all at once, for the benefit of everyone. You can't let this dribble out slowly, it becomes daily torture to those waiting for the "turk" to come. And it is certainly, much better that "running the players off" in the hot Texas sun, ala Bear Bryant.

You can't 'let this dribble' out slowly?......that's punny.

It's reality. No one will remember any of this in a few months. You need to get on your big boy pants and let LB do what he needs to do to turn this program around. Welcome to the real world.

Doh was constantly shuffling players in and out. Maybe this is the last time for big roster changes and we can get some player stability.

True.
And I really think it's a matter of anything LB does will get media attention, something I wasn't quite expecting after the usual burst of coverage when he was hired. But all eyes are on the program, so pretty much anything he does will get more coverage than any of us are used to - IMO.

i think the part i didn't understand, though, was how orsini put it. basically, he just kinda lied about it.

Please explain what part of his statement was a lie!!

the part about no scholarships not being renewed. it appears that "basketball" scholarships were nt renewed and "Academic" scholarships were offered in their stead. SO's statement doesn't come across that way to me.

at the end of the day, I have zero problem with what has been done. LB made the decisions he thinks are necessary to get us better. changes had to be made. he's doing his job and not wasting any time in doing it.

This really is no big deal. It happens in all sports at SMU. Sometimes players just don't have it and the teams need to move on. It's a good lesson in life for the kids.

These were average players and Brown knows they will play no part in any sort of resurgence of our program.

I obviously feel empathy for the players, but I am particularly glad to see Samarippas gone - only because I am consistently in shock the SMU fanbase continues to perpetuate the nickname "frog".

The fact people openly embrace a nickname of our arch rival shows how far we have to go as a serious athletic school. I don't give a [deleted] what the other players call him, but there is no way in hell Duke fans would call a player "Heel" or UT fans would call a player "Aggie". It was embarrassing every time I saw it or heard it and I am so thankful those days are over.

That insufferable, holier than thou twitter jockey [deleted] Gregg Doyel disagrees with our sentiments expressed here:

I know this happens everywhere almost anytime a new coach is hired so I am not really worried about it. I don't necessarily like it but it is the way it is. It possibly could have been handled better but I think it is better to get it out of the way fast so they can find somewhere else to play if they choose. If Brown was planning on cutting them regardless it has to be better to do it earlier than to string them along.

This happens all the time in football too when a new coach comes in it is usually just worded different. They usually say so and so is gone for violating team rules or whatever.

FWIW, I would be thrilled to play for LB as well. But he would cut me, too.

This [deleted] makes it out as if we are the only program to ever do this. He actually thinks that there is no reason to do this even if it makes us better.

Does this guy actually get paid to write, or is this a glorified blogger?

Now, to be fair, a guy can be right, and still be a complete and total d-o-u-c-h-e while doing it. The two don't have to be mutually exclusive because reasonable people can disagree.

lol, exactly. Doyel is a mega-dbag, but in this instance, he's topical and not that off point. It makes me feel dirty to even agree w/him a little
