Re: HamptonAlways love seeing him get the ball....he has been a clutch player for us many times. He deserves the recognition.
[This message has been edited by PK (edited 06-24-2002).] SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: HamptonI enjoyed seeing Hampton on the All-
Texas? team in Dave Campbell's Texas Football. I also enjoyed their coverage of SMU. Very fair, I felt. I look forward to a big year from Hampton, he's definitely one of my favorites.
Re: HamptonI read that thing in Sporting News' Football Preview. I've never seen Hampton play, but everything I've read tells me he's a stud. Since Coach Bennett is now running the Ponies, I'm planning to make it up to Dallas for a few games. And I'll be sure to watch out for Hampton.
Re: HamptonDave Campbell's magazine is terrible, but any time we get a Mustang to grab some national attention, it's a good thing. I'd think the Sporting News piece is a bigger feather in Hampton's cap.
Congratulations to John. Here's hoping he has a great senior season. I really shouldn't drink and type.
Re: Hamptonfrom everything that i have heard from high up in the smu chain of command, hampton is the real deal and possibly has tbe best chance one of the couple players on this years team who will enter the NFL draft after their time on the hilltop is done.
Re: HamptonHamp will get drafted, and he'll make it in the NFL. He might not be an All-Pro, but I think he'll have a very long career. Tight ends who can catch (especially if he also can play H-back, which Hampton could) are always in demand.
