1) great university - check
2) great city - check
3) good weather - check
4) good facilities -check

Compare Smu to schools in Detroit, Milwaukee, Storrs, Cinci, Manhattan - KS, or Anywhere in Arkansas. Wedo just fine.

We made the commit to be better. Time to get moving.

Or our flawless Georgian architecture. Thats worth a top 5 guy a year right there....

i love that we have some folks squirming. I am very prepared to be hated. Cant wait.

Of course, it would be nice if they were squirming for a reason (ala Baylor) vs just a hunch of whats to come..but LB has been on the job less then a week so we will give him a couple of more days to land his first national top ten.....

I immediately thought of Scott Drew.... in fact people on this board have talked about Baylor in much the same way others are apparently talking about us.

Although violations did come out about Scott Drew...

hope the same doesn't occur here

Not to be nit picky but none of what came out of BU's recent NCAA investigation had anything to do with payments to players or family, academic fraud, or coverups of drug tests- the kind of stuff that people assume when reading quotes phrased like yours. Technically we did violate rules but almost the same rules and causes as Doherty did with texts.

The NCAA spent 3 years giving our program the equivalent of a colonoscopy and found calls and texts that for the most part were simply logged improperly or involved software a former compliance staffer mistakenly said was ok. It converted texts to email and vice versa and prior to the new wave of smartphones made it far easier to email. Coaches were told it counted as email, NCAA said it counted as texts. We got penalized for it.

The rules we got penalized on aren't even going to be rules next year. Implying that this stuff gives any real evidence of foul play as people commonly assume takes some wishful thinking IMO.

You guys will be inundated with the baseless accusations soon as well if Brown recruits the way I think he will. Looking forward to seeing your program improve and hopefully we meet on the court someday soon.

Not to be overly kind to Baylor, but I think that was all on Bliss' shoulders.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Good post by Digetydog and others stating all our natural advantages.

Don’t understand all the hate directed towards Baylor.

Seems like they are in a similar position we were in during the Pony Express days, simply trying best they can to compete against the big boys. Maybe they are doing something materially worse than the other guys, but I have a hard time believing that.

Cox calls them ‘one of the dirtiest programs in America’, compared to whom, Texas? Cox, you telling me UT haven’t or wouldn’t use the exact same tactics Baylor does?

Still remember to this day, I was at Goff’s Burgers with a good friend and UT alum who was a fairly successful engineer. This was right after the sentencing. He said SMU deserved the DP. I responded that UT pays as well. His response, “We are UT, we don’t need to play our athletes to come here”.

And you responded "and yet you did," right? Hope you didn't let him off easy

That's because you are one of the dirtiest programs in America.

Those no good programs with poor logging methods for their text messaging...

Really what evidence is there of anything that would warrant "dirtiest program in America"? No players are driving expensive cars or getting paid. I don't think you realize that the NCAA has investigated for YEARS now and after three years came up with only the same text stuff Doh got stuck with. Is SMU under Doh among the dirtiest? Please.

BU did not land star players until several years under a coach who had success getting top 20 classes to Valparaiso which had far less going for it than we did. The guy is simply outstanding about getting in front of recruits, staying in contact, and selling the program's benefits.
