2005 SCHEDULE

Postby SCAMP6381 » Fri Jan 28, 2005 4:22 pm

Have you guys seen the 2005 schedule? Last 4 games seems to be away games. What do you think about that? That will dampen the student body spirits :!: Students will have a quiet four weeks on the hilltop :!: I don't think this was good scheduling on behalf of the "STUDENT BODY" I feel for them. I just don't know what to say about the "SCHEDULING". I'LL be planning accordingly to attend last four games. HAVE A GREAT DAY PONY NATION :D :!: :!:

I didnt know that they had released the dates for the conference games.

All they have released (to my knowledge) are the non-conference game dates.

9/3 vs Baylor
9/10 vs TCU
9/17 @ Texas A&M
TBA @ UAB*
TBA @ Marshall*
TBA vs ECU*
TBA @ Houston*
TBA vs Tulane*
TBA vs UTEP*
TBA vs Rice*
TBA @ Tulsa*

Im pretty sure we'll face UAB, Marshall, and ECU as our first 3 conference games because they're our Eastern Division opponents

Since that schedule they have posted has no dates associated with the C-USA teams, I wouldn't assume that we are going to have 4 home games in a row followed by 4 away games. I suspect that the schedule has not yet been finallized and that all they are doing is showing who the home game opponnents are going to be and who we will be playing in away games.

What I love to see is that our first two games next season are HOME games. And both are winnable.

The fact that we had a winning record at home last season is something to really build on, and be proud of. I think because we only won three games last season, many of us forget that even with pathetic attendance this team is starting to get an "OUR HOUSE" mentality.

I, for one, will be extremely dissapointed if we don't win our first two games. (A) We should have beat Baylor in '03... what cost us was conservative playcall, shouldn't be a problem this time around- We're at home, and more of an open offense. (B) It's about time we strike back against the Purple Puke. I think we may have only beaten them once since the year they knocked us out of a bowl with their one win.

Wouldn't that be something, to waltz into College Station with 2 wins in a row! Ponies playing with nothing to lose! I love it.

Bring on the 2005 season! 9.3.05

(It's not being a sunshiner to expect your team to win... it's being a fan.)

The schedule on the school website is curious, to say the least. Four straight road games to end the season .... following four straight at home? Never seen a lineup like that.

If you will look a little more closely you will see that the day, date and/or time is still listed as TBA. They don't know when those last four games are, and I doubt they will be 4 home and then 4 away as currently listed.

Hmmm, don't know.

Isn't it too convenient that the conference games are listed home/Alphabetical & road/alphabetical?

I'll wait until "TBA" is complete next month before I make travel plans

Considering the fact that I have been sick all week and now my sleep cycle is so far out whack as to no longer make a lick of sense... I needed a middle of the night project. I decided to see if I couldn't cross reference our opponents schedules to get a read on when we would be playing; who and where.

Turned out to be a pretty short research assignment. Currently all of the CUSA teams are listing their schedule in this manner. (Non-conference. Home conference games. Away conference games.)

Anyway, maybe now I'll get back to my history of TupperWare project*. In case you were wondering (which, of course you weren't), TupperWare was invented by Earl Silas Tupper, the noted tree surgeon (I'm not kidding about the tree surgeon bit).

*I'm not crazy, it's for one of my screenplays- a comedy about a plastices company. Then again, maybe I am crazy...

The 2005 season offers the best HOME schedule we've had in years (since SWC for sure). I hope the athletic/marketing department can come up with a lights-out theme/promotion to sell a zillion season tickets. We oughta set a sales record with this schedule... East Carolina is the only real "stranger"... we know the rest. Five of the six have the alumni connection to Dallas and/or will travel halfway decent. We oughta average 25-28,000 with a couple of early wins.

Echo that sentiment...

UTEP's not really a "stranger", but I would add them to the "hole in the home schedule" category. In the sense that, I know only one person who went to UTEP, and he lives in Austin. I get the feeling that most of those folks end up staying in west Texas, or moving to Nevada, or New Mexico. (Note: I have met UTEP grads, and if I happened to find out where they lived, most named those three locales.)

Needless to say, we've got something to sell with our home schedule. We have to win one of those first two games, and get the mo rolling. (Again, I think we can win both, but we need at least one.)

UTEP usually brings out a pretty decent crowd and has brought their band. They have a lot of alums in the DFW area and it is a chance for the University to connect with them. That is why they joined CUSA (instead of staying in the WAC) for a chance to continue to play in Dallas every other year and in Houston every year. I really expect them to become a big rivalry game for us as the years go on.

I like it when their band plays "The Eyes of Texas". It's about as close as we'll get to hearing the UT Band again.
