For Taylor and my family, thank you all again for the well wishes and nice comments! The only update I got as of tonight is that they fear Taylor may have more than just a sprain to his ankle. They are doing additional x-rays tomorrow and the team doctors will be calling us with additional information. We are hoping for the best and a speedy recovery as well, so please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

I wish I had better news to report, but it appears that Taylor will need surgery on his ankle. He will be getting it done a week from today. While they expect a full recovery, the unfortunate part is he will be out 3-4 months. The goal is to have him back by late August. He will receive the best of care in Dallas as well as San Diego and knowing "T", he will push himself to be ready to play if not on time, sooner! Jeff

Sucks.

But getting him 100% without risk of a quick re-occurring injury should be the main goal IMHO. He probably doesn't even want to THINK about it, but maybe taking a redshirt year would be a good idea - expecting to start in 2012 coming in that late might not be realistic. Might be better to Come back strong in first year of BE play definitely to start for 3 straight years. Sure could use him this year though.

Last year was his redshirt year. Speedy recovery, Taylor

What I can tell you all is he is getting excellent care from the SMU staff and the doctor doing the surgery a week from today is the same person that does surgery for the Dallas Cowboys. Due to his size and the potential for future risk, they are repairing ligaments in his ankle. There will be screws placed in for about 3 months or less based on his progress. Once out, he can really start to rehab..so God willing he should be ready to begin the journey back up to competing for time after the first few games this year or sooner I am told. He is still in a lot of pain, but trying to rest as well to prepare for finals this week. His buddies on the team and the staff have been a huge help and my wife and I are very impressed with everyone assistance and care! Thank you all again for your kind thoughts and well wishes..we are so proud to have our son in the SMU family!!

He'd have to miss an X number of the team's games/plays in 2012. Stallion would know. I do know that medical redshirts aren't determined until a player's regular 4-year eligibility is up. Then he can apply for an extra medical redshirt year. It's not like it's something he can apply for after next year. Hopefully he comes back early this year and contributes, and it becomes moot.

OK. Thanks for the info. Obviously, I have no idea how it works.

This is a tough blow - again, reiterates the need for depth. With Levingston gone, the next really big body we have coming in is Seaver Myers but it sure would be nice to redshirt him. Unfortunately, I don't think we can especially if he shows great promise.

I talked to Dr. Baker Saturday night, and he is positive that Taylor will be back, full steam ahead, and ready to go.

I really appreciate Taylor's Dad's comments. It is a reminder to us that concerned parents (and recruits' parents) are always on top of what's being said on this board.

Thanks, Jeff, and good luck on the finals and the rehab, Taylor.

Judging by his understanding of HIPAA laws, Dr. Baker went to med school in the Carribean.

My son's surgery is this coming Tuesday...they are placing screws in his ankle and they will be removed in about 3 months. When he comes back to San Diego, he will be seeing a close family friend who is one of the best at rehabing atheltes..so he will be in great hands with his journey back to the field. I will keep you all posted..thanks again for the kind words and well wishes...meant a lot to us and especially to Taylor!
