SMU notes from Redskins mini-camp

Post by PonyPride »

Notes from this weekend's mini-camp:

Most of the time that RG3 took a snap, it was from Josh LeRibeus. He is listed as a guard but he certainly will help himself if he has position flexibility.

If Aldrick Robinson is going to make the team, he has to show more than straight-line speed. He was paying particular attention to making his cuts as he ran routes.

The Redskins have some bad receivers, including Josh Morgan who will make the team because they just gave him big money as a free agent. I don't know if Robinson deserves to make the team, but it sure looks crowded at receiver in Washington.

Worst-case scenario, is he eligible for another year on the practice squad? Or is that a one-year deal?

You can get up to 3 seasons on the practice squad.
They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

He was on the game roster the last game of the year. Receivers are putrid. Armstrong is small, Moss is old and probably cut, Gaffney gone, and two coming back from IR. If he can avoid the mistakes he made last year in preseason (fumbles, muffs and bad routes) he can make this team. Yes, there will be competition, but if he can show that he can hold onto the ball and get separation down field with his speed, he will be on that roster. Remember, you can't teach speed.

Moss is aging, but still fast and the best route runner on the team, so I bet he sticks. Armstrong seems to be a favorite of Shanahan, who keeps calling him the team's best deep threat (although how could anyone know that with Grossman and Beck playing QB?), so I bet he sticks, too. Garcon and Morgan got signed as free agents, so they're virtual locks. Al is going to have to beat out tiny WR/KRs Brad Banks and Terrance Austin, at least, so it very well could come down to special teams.

moss is still their #1 at this point, so he's not going anywhere.

morgan will get every shot to succeed, but no guarantee that he will.

garcon is legit, and will probably be 1A by the time the season starts.

AR needs to work on catching punts and playing some in the slot. garcon nd moss will get injured and miss time at some point, so AR will have to make the most out of his chances.
