what is Ponyfans thoughts if the BE does not work out
I believe if it does not work out it will end up with a new conference consisting of
Louisville, Cincy, SMU, UH, USF, Memphis, UCF
ECU, USM, Rice, Tulane, Tulsa, LaTech, UTEP
with the breakdown being
East
Louisville, Cincy, Memphis, UCF, USF, USM, ECU
West
SMU, UH, Rice, Tulane, LaTech, UTEP, Tulsa
what would ponyfans think about participation in that conference if things break down with the BE?
also if none of the teams moving to the BE actually play in the BE then they would still meet the NCAA rule for 6 teams participating together for two years to get auto qualified to NCAA championships and even if the teams going to the BE played a year in the BE if Rice, UTEP, ECU, USM, Tulsa, and Tulane were all in the conference then it would still meet NCAA requirements because those 6 teams had been together for 2 years.....the NCAA does not say they have to be in the conference they move to just that they were together for the two years prior
and in fact it would be CUSA that would then have an issue because of a lack of 6 teams together for the prior two years
also that would leave
SDSU, CSU, WY, Hawaii, Boise, UNM, Utah State, SJSU, UNLV, Nevada, Air Force, and Fresno and I think they would go ahead and pick up Idaho and NMSU to go to 14 as well
West
SDSU, Hawaii, Fresno, Idaho,Nevada, UNLV, SJSU
Mountain
Boise, UNM, NMSU, Utah State, Air Force, CSU, WY, Idaho
perhaps UTEP and Tulsa could get edgy and move over to the MWC and they break up into 8 and 8
West
SDSU, Hawaii, Fresno, Nevada, UNLV, SJSU, Idaho, Utah State
Central
UNM, NMSU, Air Force, CSU, WY, Boise, UTEP, Tulsa
leaving the new conference as
East
Louisville, Cincy, UCF, USF, USM, ECU
West
SMU, UH, Rice, Tulane, LaTech, Memphis
or Tulsa and UTEP stay and the new conference stays at 14 like at the very top, but the others still want to be smaller
West
BSU, Idaho, Hawaii, Fresno, SJSU, UNR, UNLV, Hawaii, Seattle (no football)
Central
UNM, NMSU, WY, CSU, Air Force, USU, TxState, UTSA, Denver (no football)
and the two above play as two 9 team conferences with an affiliation while the new conference with UH and SMU plays as 14
what would ponyfans prefer?
not saying this WILL happen, but it looks as though either the Big 12 will add two teams forcing someone else to add two teams probably from the BE or the BE will part ways or both
either way I don't see UH and SMU going back to the new move up conference of the nation CUSA bloated and filled with teams that will never compete and that have never competed

And why are we having this thread? I don't see us backing out of the Big East. Or the Big East imploding. So, why?

Possibilities:
Louisville -> Big XII
UConn or UConn/Rutgers -> ACC
Boise State and SDSU -> MWC
Split between Big East FB and BB schools
We'd be looking at significant reductions in contract $$$.

so your idea is to sit at the table, say "we have arrived", watch the wait staff remove the silverware, remove the plates, remove the drink glasses, and then when they finally pull the table away say "what is going on here am I going to eat or what"
in case you missed it the BE commissioner was fired, Boise is struggling to find a home for their spare sports and reconsidering their move, which makes SDSU reconsider theirs, at least 3 if not more members of the BE want out ASAP (Louisville, UCONN, Rutgers), Pitt is suing to leave early which means The Cuse probably will as well, FSU has just had a their head trustee publicly call out the ACC for not keeping football third tier rights, but keeping basketball third tier rights which helps the basketball schools and the Big 12 has a new commissioner that has said that expansion is a possibility and FSU and Clemson have been very publicly mentioned as possible future Big 12 members and Louisville has been sending whores and champagne to Chuck Neinas and Deloss Dodds for the last 5 months and now to the new Big 12 commissioner as well
I don't think there is a chance that Louisville and Cincy end up in the Big 12, but FSU and Clemson is a real possibility which means that more BE members are in play
also if Pitt and The Cuse leave in 2013 that means for football the Big East would not meet the NCAA requirement for 6 teams having played together for 2 years.....I am not sure how that works since football is a sport that does not yet have a championship, but if there is a 4 game or more playoff starting in 2013 that could matter and it could exclude the BE champ even if they are rated higher than other conference champs

actually not the case at all....I am someone that thought it was very good for The State of Texas when 3 new teams were invited into BCS AQ conferences (TCU, SMU, UH) and even more so because it was several different conferences which means that Texas could have 3 or even 4 BCS teams in a single season (except TAMU will never make the grade in the SEC) and now it looks like through no fault of their own and with little input UH and SMU might need to act yet again so I was wondering if SMU was thinking like some idiot fans on other forums are that SMU and UH will go groveling back to the CUSA or try and cobble something together with the MWC or will SMU and UH be proactive and form a new conference that might not quite be what the BE was, but that will be a hell of a lot better than what the CUSA has become and what the MWC would be spread out all over the place and filled with schools that really all don't want to be together
SMU and UH were very proactive and they were rewarded for that in spite of what many thought about their efforts, but it looks as though unfortunately the time to be proactive has not yet ended

SI:
I was in Boise recently and the local chatter was that with the BCS dropping the AQ concept and the apparent demise of the WAC, where Boise was playing all sports but football, the Broncos would stay in the Mountain West. The only thing keeping them in the Big East is television dollars. Is the new look Big East really going to get a much sweeter TV deal than the Mountain West? It seems the media markets are similar, as are the national reputations of the respective teams.

I don't believe Boise will go back, but if it does, the issue of where to place its other sports will be a more pressing reason than AQ status.
You may not believe it, but the Big East, even in its depleted state, will fetch a hefty payday when its TV contract comes up this fall. Television networks covet live sporting events because of the DVR factor, and the Big East stands to provide a lucky network or networks with a massive amount of inventory (with 12 teams in 2013), some very attractive television markets (Philadelphia, Houston, Dallas, Orlando) and an extremely popular multi-day event, the Big East basketball tournament. With multiple bidders (ESPN, Fox, NBC) likely to drive up the price, TV consultant Neal Pilson told the New York Times this week that the league could approach or exceed the ACC's $155 million annual deal with ABC/ESPN.
Contrast that to the Mountain West, which is getting a measly $12 million a year from its current partners in a deal that's locked in through 2016.
But the issue with the other sports is a real concern. Even if the WAC manages to rebuild, it will probably rank among the lower tier of the 31 Division I conferences. The Mountain West is adamant that it will only take Boise back as an all-sports member. The Big West already passed on Boise once, taking San Diego State's strong basketball program instead. Presumably Boise will make another run at that league (which will discuss expansion again next week) but it doesn't have much to offer. The MWC may be its only appealing fallback. But with so much potential new Big East revenue on the table, I have to imagine Boise will find a way to make it work.

This is all beyond dumb now - who knows by July 2013. Nobody can predict anything so why worry about it. We tried our best and went for it.
Re: what is Ponyfans thoughts if the BE does not work out
I'm so sick of conference talk.
Re: what is Ponyfans thoughts if the BE does not work out
I don't think that ACC TV deal was what they thought it would be. According to what Yahoo is reporting, instead of $17 million per team, it's looking more like $12 million per team. If Florida St, Clemson, Georgia Tech, and Miami were to bolt to the Big XII, you could possibly see the Big East pick off ACC teams. Especially, if NBC were to offer more on the upcoming TV contract.

Just to throw this in there...
My dream conference is this
East- Colorado St, Houston, TCU, SMU, UTEP, Tulsa
West- Nevada, Boise St, SDSU, UNLV, Utah St, BYU
I feel this would make for an extremely competitive conference that has no garuntees for a certain conference champ.

Re: what is Ponyfans thoughts if the BE does not work out
We better be good in the Big East right away but I wouldn't mind us also slipping love notes to the Pac12 in the meantime, just in case. As long as we have a competitive team, I think the DFW market will deliver us to a good conference. Please. God. No more WAC/C-USA purgatory.
