Football vs Basketball

Postby lwjr » Sat May 12, 2012 2:56 pm

Larry Brown and the basketball program are dominating all the headlines right now but it seems the football program is not getting the " bump" in recruiting upgrade since the announced move to the Big East obviously the BBall program has seen the "bump". I know the BE is known more for BBall than football but I thought we would be seeing a little bit of difference but that does not seem to be the case. I am NOT dumping on Coach Jones and his staff. Has there been a difference in recruits interested in the football program or not.

Jones doesn't recruit top talent. Only under the radar guys. Wont matter what conference we are in.

Unfortunately fb doesn't have the same young and aggressive recruiters that Larry brown has employee. Regardless of conference, I'm afraid football recruiting won't get any better til smu hires a new coach. June's staff without Klemm just isn't getting it done imo.

The contrast is startling, refreshing and at the same time infuriating. That is all.

Recruiting has gotten worse with a move to a better conference. Draw your own conclusions.

June believes his "system" with less talented players will allow him to beat teams with better talent. In a way, it's like the late 80's - early 90's all over again........

Its evident that June doesnt know how or care to recruit top talent.

June's staff without Klemm is about where it was with Klemm. If Klemm went out and signed every bona-fide blue chipper in the country it wouldn't amount to a hill(top) of beans if the kids couldn't get into school or stay in school.

Fer serious? Clearly you forget the years where we went deep into summer with ZERO recruits.

My only comment it is far better to criticize the lack of recruiting on these general thread, then to do it on a thread started with the announcement of an athlete committing to SMU. The kids and parents read those right away and its not their fault that they sign with SMU...we should be happy for them. It would be nice to get a few 4 and 5 star commits is all.

Even in the Bennett days we were getting commits in the spring if I recall corrrectly- this isn't new to June Jones.

At this point several years into the June Jones era we should not even be comparing what we did while we were in CUSA under another coach. We can pat ourselves on the back all day if we do that. We are headed to a BCS conference and we need to be able to land and keep high caliber BCS players. I think the coaching staff is working very hard but I just don't think they have enough experience recruiting and landing high caliber BCS recruits with multiple BCS offers. The next AD may not be so passive at 6 to 7 regular season win years in the Big East.
