Re: Orsini
This is bizarre. Something happened, was uncovered, or Orsini is taking another job. I do not think it's the last...

I am just hoping that the dreaded 4 letters that form dirty words do not show up anywhere.
It makes sense to me.

Re: Orsini
Some one mentioned that SO's contract had been extended. It will be interesting if we learn just what the separation will cost SMU. Whatever it might be I doubt that the money will come from a 'Circle of Champions.'

TAMU?
that works but I was thinking more along the lines of the N*A*
It makes sense to me.
Re: Orsini
Two steps forward, five steps back. I have only three possible reasons for this. (1) The NCAA has found a problem which leads back to the AD's office. (2) In hiring Larry Brown, Orsini did something to tick somebody off, perhaps made some promises on admissions that the University was a bit uncomfortable about. (3) Orsini flirted with the wrong job. Otherwise, I'm not sure why the dismissal, effective immediately would have been done this way.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

It was too abrupt and came at a very weird time to be about anything other than an enormous problem for which SO is taking the fall. I don't know him, but he has done remarkable things to resurrect interest in sports among some of our most influential alums. Hope too much damage hasnt been done.
Good gawd man, get a grip. Look at this as great news - not as a negative. You are overthinking this - and reacting in an extremely negative context. Be a "glass-half-full" person. It's a helluva lot more enjoyable. C'mon.

Something about hearing "Eric Dickerson" named as our AD makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I want someone with a bit of swagger.

Look, I want to be there with you and I think this could turn out to be a good move, but again we are creating a perception that SMU is a damned hard place to work when it comes to athletics. We take longer than almost any other program to hire a bball coach because we held on to the last one way too long and a lot of the pieces to be successful were not in place yet which caused some early targets to shy away; now all of a sudden when we have a football program on the rise, a bball program making national news in a good way, a conference upgrade and major facilities upgrades in progress, and the guy who orchestrated all of that is "dismissed" out of the clear blue sky with no explanation (yes, I realize there are some special people who likely know the deal behind all this, but for the rest of us mere mortals we are in the dark). What "good" AD wants to walk into a situation where he might get canned for doing his job well? Perception is reality and right now that is the perception that seems to be dominating the conversation. I want to think this is a step in the process to get someone better, but damn the admin makes it hard to have faith sometimes.

Re: Orsini
RGT would not have fired him for knowing he was interviewing for the TAMU AD or any other job, or asking for more money. He would not have been fired for operating the athletics program at a deficit. Nearly all schools operate in a deficit. Unfortunately, there had to be something behind the scenes where their working relationship was no longer tolerable. I hope it's just that and nothing more including any violations.
Re: Orsini
they would have announced self imposed punishment for violation concurrently if it was that. you want to beat the NCAA to the punch on those things. it didn't have to do with interviewing at another school, or operating at a deficit either.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

Re: Orsini
Look, all this has nothing to do with football or MBB. Its because of the non revenue sports. We all know that Orsini recklessly endangered our athletes. It was even posted on Youtube when our rowing team was caught without seatbelts ina moving vehicle. Turner had no choice.
