Important Football Question

Post by BUS »

For the A$M game, would it be OK to have a menu of Bonfire Brisket and Chicken Ranch Salad and serve all the hors d'oeuvres on plastic swords? (Go 1983 Cheer Team)
Sounds quite appropriate to but what is your take?

Yes. Aggies still like bonfire. As long as you don't make it seem you're making fun of or trivializing the tragedy.

Aggie fans are much more tolerable than whorn and tech fans.

I'd tell some bonfire jokes, but it would upset the uptight country club atmosphere here in Ponyfans.

Real team message boards (texags) are way more fun.

I think you should stay away from the bonfire items, but serve lots of chicken ranch salad and things on a plastic sword...a little grilled Bevo might make you some new friends. 8)
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Nothing wrong with making fun of bonfire, if that's what you're even doing. It was one tragedy, one day. They've been doing bonfire for a lot of days before that and since.

I love insensitive jokes but stay away from bonfire jokes. They're pretty sensitive about all the kids who died. I joked about it once and had 4 Aggies in my face (luckily for them they backed down :))

What is the appropriate time frame for dead people jokes?

depends.

bin laden, saddam hussein, gaddafi, etc. = no limit, can immediately be funny.

college kids = not sure there is an appropriate time

celebrities = depends how they died

ponyfans = never

Honestly those kids died because of a stupid tradition and lack of awareness/attention to detail. They have a decent engineering school and they should've used it.

Fair game, they're cultists anyways. Serve your bonfire grilled lamb with red kool aid. Laugh at them. Repeat.

BUS is a class act. I have no doubt he will present his Vard cuisine in high class fashion.

They died due to a lack of discipline and in adherence to their own rules they established, including the number of people on the stack at one time, a zero tolerance alcohol policy and strict engineering and design standards. They didn't die due to a tradition. They died due to not taking the high standards of that tradition as seriously as they should have.
