It’s Somehow Getting Worse For U.S. Senate Candidate CJ
Deadspin is going to town on CJ, and I think it's hysterical.

Craig would've been smart to throw his support behind Dewhurst early, who will easily walk onto Capitol Hill in November. CJ had to know he had no chance immediately after the TT scandal, if at all

I'll never understand the lack of love shown from anyone, even among posters on this board, for ex-SMU great Craig James.

For the same reason CJ had a lack of love shown for his alma mater for the majority of 25 years.

Not a fair reason. He was asked to stay away. Not saying you have to like him but anyone associated with the DP days were encouraged to stay away until recently.

Now that James doesn't have the TV gig, it will be interesting to see if he starts coming around more.

When I was flying out to Midland last week the guy next to me pointed out that Tom Leppert was deplaning in front of us, pretty sure he was the only one who noticed.

Remember when he did that before? No one cared.

But did he breed a Pegasus solely for the purpose of hunting it down? Or worse, did he support letting those two geldings into our stadium?
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

James has a likeability factor of a minus 1. Always comes off as being perceived as a disconnected, pompous dude. That's why he'll bow out from the race. The Tech fiasco certainly couldn't have helped him. Looks like the pirate got his revenge in the long run. However, I did like him as a player, even though he was on the payroll.

Re: It’s Somehow Getting Worse For U.S. Senate Candidate CJ
CJ is a minor celebrity with no political experience to speak of and no natural political base. Going up against political heavyweights like Dewhusrt and Cruz was not the best way to dip his toe in the water for the first time. CJ had zero success getting his message out. After several months of campaigning, the only things I know about him are that he took cash payments as a college football player, he has engaged in a personal war with a college football coach from Texas Tech, and there are unsubstantiated rumors that he killed 5 hookers in college. I wouldn't call that a great job of defining yourself to the voters.
Not sure what CJ was thinking, but his campaign pretty much went how I expected for a candidate of his profile. If he is serious about building a political career, then he needs to do a lot of legwork and maybe try for something a little smaller next time. A statewide US Senate race in a state the size of Texas is serious business. Not for amataurs.

You hit the nail on the head. The US Senate shouldn't be an on-the-job training ground for former football broadcasters. He should have tried for the state senate or something

I didnt know Craig in school but there was something about his personality that struck me the wrong way when he started popping up regularly on TV. He comes across as a bit of a loudmouth who couldn't stand not being the center of attention. No likeability quotient ala Dandy Don. But to be fair, "loudmouth" and "lamebrane" describes most of the college fb color analysts. I also don't know what the truth was regarding his son and the Pirate, but the few Tech fans in my social circle unanimously hate him. Not a good start for a political career.
