Re: Roscoe SmithGood for UNLV, but I'd rather not have Roscoe Smith. He'll have a permanent UConn stain on him wherever he goes.
Re: Roscoe SmithI not upset about this. If we can land Goodman, we'll be in great shape.
SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: Roscoe Smith
yea, you're right. having a national champion on the team wouldn't be good at all.
Re: Roscoe Smith
If you think Roscoe Smith had anything to do with 'Conn winning the NC then you didn't watch any of the games. Just because he's listed on the roster doesn't mean he had a positive impact for them. He sucked compared to his potential - that's most of why he's transferring.
Re: Roscoe SmithI have watched almost every single uconn basketball game the last 5 years. Roscoe started on the national championship team and was a huge asset. You wouldn't tell from his stats b/c he only averaged 6 pts and 5 rebounds that season, but he did a lot that doesnt show up in the box score (including a full court heave with 10 seconds left lol). His stats were not going to be impressive with Kemba and Lamb on that team is the offense ran through them...Roscoe plays unbelievable defense, rebounds well, is a tough player who does a lot of dirty work. He is extremely active around the offensive glass and scored most of his points on offensive rebounds and 3 pointers. at this stage in his development, he can not create for himself off the bounce. One of the reasons he left uconn is because his camp believes he is a 3, but was getting most of his minutes at the 4. If you think he wouldn't have helped SMU, you are crazy.
Re: Roscoe SmithSo last season with Kemba gone he takes a dip in the stats, averaging four points and three rebounds in eighteen minutes. Also shot horribly.
A kid got cut from SMU for playing like that.
Re: Roscoe SmithHe is not a primary scorer, his stats are never going to be jaw dropping. Again, I said he does so many things that you don't find in the box score. His is a supreme defender who can guard four positions on the floor and is a tough tough kid. adding toughness on a team as soft as this SMU team would be very important.
Yes kemba and a lot of shots left to the NBA, but the ball was dominated by Lamb, Napier and Boatright. If you dont think Roscoe would have helped SMU, then I don't know what to tell you....because you just dont get it. If you expect him to be a superstar and lead scorer who creates offense for himself, you aren't going to get that..bc thats not Roscoe. You are going to get a starter who does dirty work, plays great D, adds toughness, rebounds well, and could average around around 8-10 pts and 6 reb
Re: Roscoe SmithHe would obviously help out SMU, but that's not really saying much considering the state of last years team. He doesn't rebound well - with a 6'8 body in the Big East, he actually rebounded less than his freshman year. If you read my post, you would know that he didn't even average four a game. Against Georgetown, the game that I watched the closest, he got torched on defense. The box score of that game agrees with me. If he can't rebound, score, or defend, what is it that he's supposed to do?
I get that he would be a step up for SMU, but I'd rather not have someone who chose to play under Calhoun and there are simply better targets we could get.
Re: Roscoe Smith
He was a moron for choosing UNLV. Good enough player, but won't star in Vegas, maybe not even start
Re: Roscoe Smith
I'm sure he won't start. Their front court is loaded. They got Mike Moser, Khem Birch, and Anthony Bennett now. Big stuff for UNLV.
