Zach Allen QB - Temple, TX

Post by CenTXpony »

Saw this kid play this last season and I think he has some potential. He's going into his senior season and has offers from Syracuse and Texas State but Okie State and Tech are also both eyeballing him. Spoken with family friends that know him well and along with having a passion for football he's also very dedicated to his academics. I think he'd make for a great student athlete at SMU and he has a tremendous upside to him. Let me know what you guys think.

His Sophmore highlights that a teammate of his made, I'd suggest hitting the mute button before listening so you don't have to hear the crummy music.

Also here is his Rivals Page

Good god, that garbage is getting so tired.

Chances are we won't go after him, but only because we already have a commitment from a quarterback.

I am tired of it too. I wish I didn't have to say it. I wish it wasn't true but it is. It seems like we are actively going out of our way to find kids that no one else has any interest in.

Do you think at some point we should go after 2 QB's in a class since we really have not found a QB outside of transfer Garrett Gilbert? And we do not know how Gilbert will do in this system.

We should have been stockpiling QB talent all along.

Zach visited campus and talked to the coaches in March. Maybe June is talking to a lot more quarterbacks than everyone knows about.

need one QB recruit every year who coaches think can actually compete for the starting job before they are out of eligibility. Otherwise, nothing wrong with recruiting QBs as athletes. Plenty of H.S. QBs play the position because they are the best athlete on the team. One of those guys we recruited in the past is now being given a chance to make the Dallas Cowboys' roster

This is the real problem. I love a lot of what JJ does but if he would have brought two qb's in for every class, we'd probably have some great qb depth right now. A little too much hubris.

I would, because like everyone else, I don't know what any of our QBs will do in a game. Gilbert, Kaiser, Preston, Krstich and Burcham (and now Cassel) have combined to throw exactly one pass in a game. I'm not ready to write off any of the others, nor am I ready to say the answer is in place. We don't know what we have, so yes, if another QB with serious talent wants to come to SMU, I would take him ... but then, I don't have to manage a roster.

You mean he's not sending out flyers to announce every time he does something? Oh, the horror of it all.

And since Cassel has no other FBS offer at this point we probably do not have to be concerned about another him going to another program if we get another QB commit.

Update on Zach. This is from ESPN. He was named as an Elite 11 player by ESPN.

http://espn.go.com/high-school/football ... 11-invites

Zach Allen
Temple (Texas)
Position Rank: No. 48 pocket passer
How he got here: The Syracuse commit was a relative unknown until his excellent performance at the Dallas Elite 11 regional. He threw for 1,746 yards and 10 scores and also added 12 TDs on the ground last year.

We did not extend him an offer, so Syracuse it is.
