Baylor and TCU will be very tough games I think that TAMU is a probably loss, but I think that LaTech has a very good chance of beating TAMU and if LaTech beats than and Florida stomps them for a big SEC welcome then the aggies team could be totally beaten by then already because they have shown for years once things get out of control their players give up easily and I don't think that Sumlin is the guy to change that or really to change anything about them being just a bad team overall

the aggie game could be similar to the TCU game last year only instead of aggie having something to play for they will be expected to win and they will have already given up.....I think that Florida is going to put a total demoralizing beat down on them and I think that LaTech will be close even if it is a win for TAMU and even if it is a decent win the Florida curb stomp will be a huge deflation for the team, coach, and fan base and the rest of the SEC will be merciless on them for the rest of the week and it will get to the team and coaching staff and June Jones has not worked the Hawaii Miracle at SMU, but he does know how to coach and he knows the mental aspects of the game

the bad deal is coming off of SFA that is a good D1-AA team, but SMU will need to really play lights out against them to have that type of game carry over to the TAMU game.....it would be better if SMU was playing a team like Tulane or UAB or Rice that you could beat and still say hey at least it was a D1-A team we were using to get ready

I think that UH is a win this year, USM is a possible loss and so is Tulsa

so I have

L
W
W (going out on a limb that LaTech and Florida will do "work" on aggie)
L
W
W
W
W
W
L
W
toss up

so 8-4 or 7-5 depending on the TAMU and the Aggie game

the real key is to not let a potential two game losing streak and 3 out of 4 right to start the season let the team get too down.....the stretch after TAMU are all winnable and should be a win until USM

at worst 6-6 because I think that UH is the only real potential loss and even if all the teams that I have down for a loss are a loss along with Tulsa and UH (and tamu that I have for a win) I still think that there will be a surprise win to even it out and get it to 6-6

Sorry to see a great kid like Kyle leave the team, but I wish him well. He'll thrive this year and for years to come. You on the other hand...

Kyle may be a Great Kid and I too wish him success in his future but he is not best suited to be, in my opinion, a QB... He should play Center Field, it is a perfect match for his skills...

The clues are "it's a slower game".. "it's a nice slow jog to Center Field".. "swinging at a ball with a bat has fewer variables to consider and takes less time to make a decision"... He could go all the way and play for the Rangers

"The Gunslinger will have outperformed Kyle when all the E. Washington stats are in"...

Playing in June's offense is not like swinging a bat and hitting a ball. It's like four pitchers throwing at you simultaneously and your job is to pick the best pitch and hit that one.

So to continue with JonesDoe's analogy... IMHO, Kyle's issue wasn't so much his inability to connect with the ball as it was determining which of several options was the best one to swing at. I think Kyle was at his best when he connected early and got the D back on its heels, which gave him a little more time to make decisions.

Failing that, I think he did his best work under pressure when he had Sanders to throw to.

quite a few think this will be an 8-4 season. The more I look at this schedule, the more I realize how tough the home schedule is. Let's just hope this team can produce a winning record at home. If they can do that, I would expect them to go at least 7-5

If they go 3-4 at home, will be really tough to find 6 wins on this schedule. Sure hope we can find a way to jack up home attendance with SMU fans...especially for those CUSA games. Really need to win at least 3 of 4 CUSA home games to have a good year.

To even have a shot to get those C-USA home games filled we need some buzz like a 6-0 start and a national ranking.

And that about sums up where we are as a program...the most attractive home schedule we've seen in years and there's a good possibility we will have the usual 16k in attendance (with the exception of A&M and TCU games). I would hope the Houston game would draw close to 25k (assuming we have posted a winning record when they come in). USM and Tulsa could be really important games that may be poorly attended. Where is Russ Potts when we need him?

June has publically prepared us/insured himself for a 6-6 season. Fellas, I see at least 4-5 teams that will probably crack the Top 25 during the season and so I believe him. Happy with 6, excited with 7, bowled over by 8, and building player/coach statues with 9+.

Maybe the question should be, "Can JJ level his record at SMU this year?" I doubt it, so something less than 9-4 including a bowl game.

I think, as we all hope, we will be pleasantly suprised by the "O". Young line yes, but we have some exp to build a foundation on and I think the youngs guns that have been in the system will step-up. The running game will keep aggressive "D's" honest. GG in the shot-gun can quick hit them to death if need be and run when he has to. I also think GG will pick up the scheme, or at least at at level to be sussesfull. Adding Timmy Chang to mentor not just GG, but the group will pay dividends. If Connor or Stephen end up being the guy ... that does not mean GG is a bust, it must mean they are kicking and clicking .... great for us

I think the "D" will be better this year even w/o TT or Crawford ... and so does coach Mason. He said that last year and he was right (26th ranking). I think we have the very real possibility to be Top 20. Margus will continue to rise, Tolran will be better, and when you have all 4 of your starting LB's returning in a 3-4 scheme ... that is Huge. The secondary will be solid ... throw in (Spike, Grenier, Barnes, Wood, Pope, Joyner, Seal and others ... oh yes that wonderful thing known as depth), and IMO, I think the "D" can be special. Like they say, "Defense wins championships" ... I think ours will have us knocking at the door. I also think ... besides the usual suspects (stars), we will see a couple of guys join that group now that they have a year of game exp and serious playing time under thier belts. When you are comfortable and confident in what you see and what you are doing ... you play faster and your production goes up. I saw that the back half of the season last year with some guys ... Coach Mason has also made that comment ... yes I believe in Mason.

1) 8-4 regular season ... I'll be suprised if we don't. I think we beat USM and Tulsa at Home .. UCF will be the challenge on the Road. I think we beat TCU again at home ... come up short with A&M ... and while we may not, I will not be shocked if we beat Baylor. So. 9-3 is not out of the question IMO, but a good reach.
2) We beat UCF in the conference Championship ... 9-4 (I'll put the Baylor hope to the side on this)
3) Not ready to predict a W/L in the Bowl yet

So, 9-5 ... or 10-4 ... very nice either way. As with any season, so much will depend on key injuries or lack thier of for SMU or our competition

The nightmare = 4-8.
The dream = 8-4.
So maybe 6-6 is all I should expect.

The guy I'm talking to says 5-7 with wins against SFA, UTEP, Rice, Tulane and Memphis....
So 5-7 for him.

But my magazine projects that SMU will play San Diego State at the Hawai'i Bowl.
