For all those people think we can get to a BCS bowl with this type of recruiting, all I have to say is we will see.

The only problem with that line of thinking is that when we fail to be competitive and JJ finally leaves, we are going to be left with a team almost completely devoid of the talent necessary to compete in the ever consolidating BCS world.

Back-to-Back Rivals classes ranked in the 90's is going to doom us. And for the idiots who say Rivals doesn't matter, their rankings are correlated to offers.

You are probably about to get attacked by the JJ to the death supporters for that post.

I only hope LB stays around long enough to disprove the theory that our past determines how quickly we can compete on a national stage.

We will be fine. We have never had this many commits this early. I think the coaching staff is working harder than ever.

Quantity does not always equal quality. We have also never had our first 11 commits with zero BCS offers. The is probably working hard but that does not mean they are getting BCS level players for the BE. You have to work smarter as well as harder. Busy work is not effective work most of the time. Heck, staffs that get fired that work hard but they don't bring in the high enough caliber player to win. All of the players that committed were players where SMU was a no brainer option either over no other offers or over UTSA like schools. Just sayin'.

As best as I can tell, the staff's strategy this year in recruiting is to recruit and offer local kids before they get other/bigger offers. Some will get another decent offer, but I don't think many of the kids already committed will.

In the past we've seen that June's offers tend to lead other schools to offer -- and individual recruit rankings to increase. What reason do we have to believe this will not be the case this year?

This from today's DMN:

SMU Mustangs: Three years ago, it was Missouri's Stephen Kaiser. Then California's Conner Preston came in 2011. Last year featured Arkansas' Neal Burcham. And with the 2013 class, June Jones continues his tradition of signing an intriguing out-of-state quarterback by snagging a commitment from Kolney Cassel out of Washington. Here's how the recruiting services rank SMU's class:

247 Sports: No. 34 overall class, 3 3-star commits

Rivals: No. 37, 4 3-stars

Scout: No. 62

You really buy into this crap don't you. The Guy who found those kids is now coaching at UCLA. They are about a decade behind Texas in early recruiting-its changing now. Klemm was early out of the gate last year for California. He found the kids while Jones was vacationing in Maui. Some of those kids were superstars as Juniors and really weren't "found" by June Jones like it says in your "fairytale". SMU simply seized on an opportunity to hit a state early which is not used to all the late winter/early spring recruiting we see in Texas. That's why you have to have an aggressive recruiting staff that does their homework with contacts in the community

So do we completely discount the fact that per Rivals we're currently number two in the Big East in recruiting right now, behind only Louisville?

Yes completely discount that fact as it means nothing except we loaded up on filler. 0 BCS offers, 2.44 avg star ranking, that puts us down there with Temple.
