Props to Vic V.

Post by Jim Rome »

Zillions of preseason football mags are cluttering the newstands these days. We all have ones that we like, and there are some that are terrible.

One new one I saw this year is "Phil Steele's 2002 College Football Preview." Who Phil Steele is escapes me. Never heard of him, and for the most part, his magazine is terrible. (This genius says the Texas offensive line isn't even among the top 25 in the nation. Has he seen those beasts?)

Anyway, the one thing he did get right was to name Vic Viloria to his list of the top inside linebackers in the country. He has #55 ranked at #30. Too low, in my opinion, but nice to see him get some national ink.

Are he and Hampton the only ones getting any national pub? Has anyone seen any mag that gives well-deserved props to Jonas Rutledge and Kevin Garrett? Sporting News didn't have them ranked among the top pairs of corners, and all bias aside, that's insane. They can play on any team in the country. I'm not saying they'd start everywhere else, but those two can flat-out play.

National accolades for Viloria are long overdue. I've always thought it's a little interesting that we talk so highly of Jonas, KGarrett, ShanD, etc., when Viloria and Comet are still the best players and the heart and soul of the team. They are the leaders of the team, both with their play and emotionally, too.

I couldn't agree more! All of the Mustangs deserve credit! I am especially proud of Vic though because he is my nephew and I know what he is made of. Vic is the "heart and soul" of our family as well as the Mustangs. He is loyal to his team, coaches, and his family. I sure am glad he is on our side. Even without the recognition, he will be the best linebacker he knows how to be. He is unstoppable and fearless. That's just how he is. I thank SMU for giving him the opportunity to suceed and God for the good health that he has been given these last 5 years.
GO MUSTANGS! GO SENIORS! BEAT NAVY!
