EastStang you are wrong. There was not one single half way specific allegation made against UT about illegal recruiting inducements made in 30/30 Pony Excess by Eric Dickerson or any other SMU player. There were about Texas A&M which everybody knew based on factual reports were occuring. I couldn't believe there was a no credible allegation against Texas but there wasn't. This was the time to make those allegations-but nothing. Also, I'm not just talking about the NCAA, I'm talking about any credible media story about a substantial illegal recruiting inducement made against UT. BTW the Edwin Simmons allegations dealt with an pair of $500 boots an alumnus bought for him -I don't think it had a thing to do with a transcript.

Come on Stallion, you are a smart enough guy to realize that if any of the Dallas media had spent even a tenth of its resources at the time looking into any of the other schools in the SWC, with maybe the exception of Rice, there would have been more heads rolling. The fact that the media and eventually the NCAA did not scrutinize UT like it did SMU does not mean that their hands were clean. If indeed you truly believe that they were....than I guess ignorance is truly bliss.

I've been told of UT supporters and businesses braking the rules. That was all back around the Dickerson/James days. Whether or not the UT coaches know of everything that goes on away from campus I do not know.

Bighorse - that's funny! No I'm an old guy with a bunch of old friends that played for UT, Baylor, OU etc. I just know more about the old days...I suspect there is lots of cheating going on today.

In re Texas: I specifically recall seeing an interview with Dickerson, I believe by a Houston tv station, about the time of the dp, in which he said he told the NCAA about Texas and Arkansas (among others) who had offered him, and the investigator's response was"why would they Have to offer anything to go to their school?". Eric said the NCAA didn't want to hear about it.

I'm sure nobody at UT is stupid enough to just hand over cash. That's dinosaur cheating from 30 years ago. I'm sure there are more sophisticated methods everywhere. Hopefully Larry Brown can bring us into the modern era and put us on equal footing.
