As for me, I want him at SMU. I look forward to watching him catch passes and score touchdowns.

The downer crowd that has taken over this board will be gleeful about this. They caused it, they will celebrate it. Fantastic.

If some kid ran off about something we said, I do not want him at our school because he is a wuss and would pee down his leg at first sight of an FBS college lineman. What the kid said was about track and only about track. These kids are 17, maybe it is possible that they make decisions without knowing everything about SMU. Stop making stuff up to fit your agenda, you aren't fooling anyone. These are some idiotic comments, no one here wants SMU to fail. Stop being dumb.

Man this is a stupid thread, went from comparing our coaching staff to Boise State to making up things about a kid wanting to leave because of something we said on a message board.

Boise's program is amazing AND they do NOT have the history we have. Let's get behind THIS team and get very, very positive about running the table this year. I don't care if it's realistic or not. Reality is what you CREATE. I see this year's team being VERY VERY good and VERY capable of running the table. Why not?

Everyone here is behind this team but honestly it doesn't really matter how positive or negative any fans are because it's the coaches and the players that have to go out and create this reality. This message board has no bearing on the on-field product.

Agreed ... mostly. Attendance and support definitely have an impact on the on-field product (see Tulsa performance after terrible UCF attendance - they are definitely linked ... many comments posted by players on FB about lack of school/community support -- it HAS to impact them somewhat... should it? NO. But these are kids and they are human). Players need morale boosting from time to time and we are the most passionate. If it doesn't come from here, it won't come from anywhere. Word of mouth is huge - look at RBA. Those guys are awesome! This message board is a tool for them (and others) to get momentum going on grassroots support.

Hold the program to a higher standard, yes, absolutely. But enough of the constant [deleted] about everything. See the cup half full. All I'm sayin'.

Massive reach to assume that his disappointment over the lack of a track program is an excuse and that the real reason is that he did not like what he read online.

Grant, I agree...its a reach. If you will recall, I only said I wondered... However, that certainly is a possibility. Kids like to go where they are wanted.

As for calling a kid a wuss because he decides to go where he feels wanted...I think every recruit out there has the obligation to themselves to go to the school that makes them feel good about themselves and their opportunities.

I have never once said I wanted a kid gone nor will I ever say that. I meant hypothetically, if a kid leaves a school over something that is said on a message board then he is mentally weak and doesn't really have a place in division I athletics and we will not miss them anyway. What will that kid do if a coach yells at him for missing an assignment? Go cry in the corner?

Goldstein, maybe I'm misunderstanding what you've been saying. Are you wanting JJ to succeed in making SMU into a power on the field? Do you expect Coach Jones to take these recruits and the others he chooses and become victorious?...lead us to bigger and better things? If so, I missed that somewhere and I owe you an apology.

I understand that we have had some big appointments over the past year or so. Some things have not been handled well. I gripped about them too. But, that's over. Now its time to get ready to win games. Lets win the C-USA for our last year in the conference. Lets play our fourth bowl game in a row. Hopefully we can all agree on that.

Goldstein, there was a good article the E J Holland (super SMU sportswriter) twitted about. Check it out. (I haven't seen it anywhere else on board) I hope everyone is pulling for the best case listed.

Yes I want JJ to succeed in making SMU into a power on the field. Do I think he will do it? It depends on your definition of power. In my opinion I do not believe he will make us a power because my definition is not finishing somewhere between 5-7 and 9-3. Do I think he will be victorious? If victorious is being above .500 consistently then yes, if it is wining 10+ games a year or winning a conference title then no. Every bit of me hopes I am wrong. If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten and that is exactly what he is doing.

Goldenstang - We all realize that winning brings better and better recruits. I think a sustainable period of 7 to 10 wins for 3 to 5 years would turn grab the type of reputation we need. Certainly a 10 win season would be nice. But we also need a run of good seasons...build a tradition of winning. However, as we win games this season I think we will see immediate results.

Completely wrong. The day Dee Paul committed he was interviewed and when asked how strong his commitment was on a 1-10 scale, he said somehting like "five" (I dont remember exactly- but it wasn't a strong commitment) and he made it clear he was still looking around for something better.

You are a complete idiot and truly delusional if you think Dee Paul is looking at other schools because of what he read on Ponyfans.

If a kid is letting innocuous fan chatter influence his decision-making then he's too dumb to be of use to SMU or anyone else.
