A recruiting comparisonA comparison of SMU football recruiting against the rest of the BE schools we will be playing in 2013.
Based on rivals recruiting service 6/19/2012. School total recruits 4star 3star 2star ns SMU 15 1 4 7 3 Boise State 7 0 6 1 Central Florida 9 0 7 2 Cincinnati 9 0 6 2 1 Connecticut 7 0 5 1 1 Houston 6 0 4 1 1 Louisville 9 0 9 Memphis 6 0 1 3 2 Rutgers 7 0 5 2 San Diego State 1 1 South Florida 4 4 Temple 4 2 1 1 Looks like SMU coaches are keeping busy. Sent from my KOREAN knockoff using Tapdance 5
Re: A recruiting comparisonLooking at the amount of BCS offers each team has as that is probably even more telling.

Re: A recruiting comparison
Sometime not. A player must fit the system he is recruited for. SMU has offered a lot of 4 stars this year and lost them to bigger schools like aTm, Baylor and OS. These schools throw a lot but we have not lost any to Texas or Oklahoma because they are different type players. A few of our players are second choice players but fill the need of what they are recruited for after a period of training in the system. Our coaches are recruiting against the BE not the SEC Sent from my KOREAN knockoff using Tapdance 5
Re: A recruiting comparisonAnd quantity does not always equal quality. I hope you remember that. We are not doing to well against BE team of you look at quality offers. What team in any BCS conference consistently wins the conference with mostly 2nd or third tier players? I guess if a few of our players are second tier players then then rest must be 3rd tier players since other schools have seen them and not offered. Mason went to Wylie East where 2 of the top pass catchers in the state are and did not offer or show any interest (not even last year) in either but he offers a player that is switching from TE to DE with no offers and major college coaches with more skins on the wall than ours visiting the school. We might have offered 4 star players but who know how hard we are really going after them or do we even have a coaching staff that can relate to most of them as they are rather old compared to the counterparts they are recruiting against. It is easier to get players recruited by UNT, UTSA, and South Dakota State and say these are just right for SMU. But will they win the BE. I guess we will see next year, but we will also see where we are against Baylor, ATM, and TCU this year. 14 players no BCS offers but some think we will have the top class in the BE and win the national championship. Keep dreaming or smoking dope.

Re: A recruiting comparisonWe have a 4 star commitment?
I don't know where you're getting your info from but Rivals shows us with 14 commits. 4 - *** stars 7 - ** stars 3 - unranked UCF has Seven 3-stars (not 2-stars) and Two unranked. You can't exactly count the OL transfer as a 4-star because he hasnt played a single snap of D-1 ball yet. If you accounted for him, why not add a 5-star in GG? You shouldn't count transfers as we don't even know what transfers the other schools are getting.
Re: A recruiting comparisonBTW, every single one of UCF's recruits have quality BCS offers while ours don't
Re: A recruiting comparisonI understand, but I'll take Tom Mason's evaluation over a group of under-employed "jock sniffers" from a recruiting service any day. Our last commitment has no stars, no offers and will come back and play so well for us in a couple of years all of you will think about cancelling your Rival's subscriptions. This kid is a monster just starting to grow...any of you bother to get his time in the 40? or look at him a year ago when he played qb?
Re: A recruiting comparison
Would you take Mason's evaluation over other BCS school's coaches evaluations? I am sure you would because it sounds like he is your BFF. I guess that is what a hello at a luncheon will do for some people. This is not about Rivals, it's about offers. We will see what we do against Baylor, ATM, and TCU. I hope your are correct because if not you will look like a flat out fool. We have offered a pretty decent RB from Oklahoma that our coaches are doing a poor job in following up on. That is not good. Re: A recruiting comparison
You mean like our 14 other recruits with zero BCS offers. In the years JJ has been at SMU he has never had his first 14 commits without a BCS offer. But then this is the oldest and least diverse staff in the state and most likely any BCS in the country. #HammerDown
Re: A recruiting comparisonAside from your snide comments, Mason is recruting in an area that many of you have been rightly criticizing--our own back yard. In the history of SMU football, less than a handful of great players have ever come from out of state. I believe it is also true for UT.
If you are a local coach you will uncover those players other coaches miss that simply fly into the Metroplex and fly out two days later. You will find that other coaches make offers to only our kids that they feel will listen to their pitch, they will not make an offer if they feel he is solid. Locally, Mason should be making the first offer. It is no secret that he does know what he is doing and that other programs take interest in his recruits. Look at those defensive recruits that have not yet committed to us and see how many BCS offers they have subsequently attracted. I agree, BSC offers are important to consider, but more often than not, once a kid commits other coaches don't waiste their time on the recruit. Secondly, recruiting season is far from over. Remember, these kids last played football when they were 16, most were not even 17 last fall. Evaluation comes during the HS's spring practice, it is impossible for coaches to catch them all and they only visit schools a kid had expressed some interest in their program. Once this fall begins, high schools will go back to practice and play begins you will see many more offers come out and many of our kids actually get rated or add stars and offers. Since we no longer have two assistant coaches more interested in the own self-promotion than in the program you won't see as much activity on these recruiting sites. I agree that three of our position coaches should be put out of their misery, they are lazy and only go through the recruitng motions, but Mason has been offered the DC job in the SEC, and two head coaching jobs in major non-BCS conferences. Finally, opps I here your boss calling you, "Will all staff come to the checkout counters, customers are waiting."
Re: A recruiting comparison
You are right, Mason should have made the first offer to Marcel Ateman and VeQuan Jones since they are in our backyard at Wylie East. Last edited by Rebel10 on Wed Jun 20, 2012 12:09 pm, edited 2 times in total.

Re: A recruiting comparisonI agree with the above. We can't yet compete for recruits with the UT's, Arkansas' or even TCU. That's one of the reasons our best recruits have come from out of state. This year most of our recruits are from Texas where our reputation is still somewhat tainted. If we can continue our winning that image of our past will change.
Re: A recruiting comparison
no idea where this is coming from. we don't have any 4 stars that i'm aware of unless he's including the transfer? in which case, we also have a 5 star. and he's really capturing commits, not recruits. Derail the Frogs!
