Next Season's predictions

Post by SMUfrat »

So, looking at the schedule - it is definitely not a breeze. I think it is funny how universities like UH pack their schedule with 'easy-win' teams like TxState, consistantly... every year. SMU always seems to do the opposite. At least since Ive been a Mustang. Although I like that we challange ourselves, I also like getting the W.

Ive wanted a 10 win season for a long time now. To do this, we would have to win at least 1 of the big12 teams or sec teams we play... preferably 2. If we played like we played against Navy - at home 2011 - we wont win even close to 10.

Im pretty sure everyone can agree our most recent recruiting class is shaping up to be terrible... but the affect of that class wont be too obvious YET.

With this being said... I am hoping for a 10-2 season, but realistically seeing a 7-5 season. Houston can upset as, as can Tulsa and Southern Miss... aTm desroyed us last time, and TCU is always strong. Who knows about Baylor. And I have reason to believe we could lose a game to UCF or Utep... Memphis has a new coach, and for the BigEast's sake, I hope they are respectable... just not better than us.

What are yalls thoughts?

6-4 largely due to the strong out of conference schedule.

Guess I was doing the new math. I meant 6-6.

8-4 realistic
9-3 pretty darn giddy
10-2 ecstatic

Keep in mind we have not beaten UH since '05 and Baylor since the '80s. This is a tough sched.

7-5
8-4
9-3

If we are 9-3 then we will be 11-3, conference champs and a bowl victory vs SEC chumps

9-3 with a win over either Baylor or TCU.

We will probably drop a game to a C-USA opponent, hopefully not UCF, as that game may decide where the C-USA title game is played.

If we win C-USA I wouldn't be surprised to see us play Mizzou or maybe Auburn in the Liberty Bowl, assuming JJ lets us go to there. Would be interesting to play Arky there.

I just think that 9-3 is very optimistic. We would have to beat Houston - which we ALWAYS seem to have a problem doing. I'm not sure if you remember... but Rice almost beat us last year...

You're absolutely right - it is a bit sushine-y.

But we have the best defense in the league, the best running back and deep threat, and the QB who is taking over should be WAY more talented than the last four he follows. If (and this is a big if) the line can hold it together than the offense has the potential to improve greatly. One small step in a couple of games is all that would make that jump.

Well, I hope that we can start off strong. We just seem to start bad, peak, then end shaky... We need to be constant and solid. If we can do that, we can do great things.

According to DC’s Texas Football that hit stands today, they have us at 8-4 regular season … playing Tennessee in the liberty bowl … which means we win the Conf Championship. So that would make us 9-4 going into the bowl. If you go with them, worst case final record 9-5 or best case 10-4 … both are nice.

They have us losing all 3 Big 12 games, and the lone C-USA loss is to UTEP … interesting. I don’t think we lose to UTEP next year and I think we win one of the Big 3 (may be 2), and UTEP might flip for UCF on the road. But, who knows …let the games begin. It is nice to get positive vibes/love from the spots guys. Good Pub is good Pub

Much like we haven't beaten Houston in forever, we never play well in El Paso.
Memphis will be improved this year but we should still handle them.
There is a lot of pub this year how UCF will have a bounce back year. I can see that after seeing how well Bortles (i think thats his name) came in and played at the end of the game in mop up QB time.
Who knows about Tulsa and their Nebraska transfer QB.

Random and out of order, but those were just the first things I thought of.

8-4 Good Season

9-3 Good Season - probably Top 25

10-2 Very Good Season - My personal goal for this year. Its lofty but we have our toughest games at home. CUSA Championship for our farewell tour.

11-1 or 12-0 - Top 15 final ranking. CUSA Champs. Knocked off at least two of our in-state SWC sisterwives. Gilbert is dominant. OL holds up. D is Top 10 in the nation.

Anything less than 8 wins is a disappointment.
Back off Warchild seriously.

9-3 would be OK. Feel 10-2 is more like it.

Could be wrong, but, I don't think we have won in El Paso since 1996.

8-4 plus a bowl win to go 9-4.
BU, A&M and TCU will be difficult. Hopefully the offense will be hitting their stride no later than the TCU game. I believe we can and should win one of the three games but will not be surprise if we end up winning two out of three. With Baylor's D, I like our chances in Waco. TCU and A&M at home, we should beat one of them. Not sure what A&M will look like, new coach, players getting familiar with a new offense, I don't know. TCU will be solid as usual. 7-2 in CUSA.
GO MUSTANGS!
