Just a note that there are considerable variables that come into play when trying to rate a 16-17 high school recruit and that a number of key items (physical growth, mental toughness, academics, and work ethic, etc.) are difficult to measure and are almost impossible to assign "stars" to until they actually play the college game.

What shocks the hell out of me is that even after Zach's breakout college career is that his brother [SMU recruit] Prescott didn't have a zillion and one offers even after Parade All-America honors and being named the best player in Michigan.

After having once given some thought to walking on for Bo Schembechler in order to play in front of 100,000 rabid Wolverine fans, I can assure you that they play some ball up there. It ain't Texas HS football, but they can play.

All were pretty lightly recruited. Johnson was a 3 star with decent offers (Houston, BC and Iowa State). Taylor Reed's profile on R doesn't show any offers but i think he was offered by Lamar -2 star. Probably due to his lack of height. Davis was a two star but with two good offers in Tulsa and Baylor. Zach Line was a 2 star with an offer from Robert Morris. Three of four, at least, will make NFL squads.

I was only suggesting that maybe there is a chance for this new class as well. We should be a little more patient with our recruiting efforts. Absolutely no question many coaches aren't pulling their weight and are only here because of June's misplaced loyalty (but loyalty is a two-way street).

I thought I remember that many of our recruits of our recent classes received their stars rather late (fall of their senior year) and although they didn't have many offers, they did have some interest from other schools that shut down their efforts when the recruit confirmed his decision to go here.

I doubt many schools are willing to suffer the indignity of having lost a recruit to little Ole SMU and won't offer at all if the athlete re-confirms his commitment here.
