Re: SMU hoops season tickets are up 50 percent?I sure as hell would have already gotten season tix if I didn't live in Austin.
Re: SMU hoops season tickets are up 50 percent?A buddy of mine bought 4, and I don't think he's been to a bball game since he graduated in 1986. Larry Brown is working up some excitement for a stagnant program.

Re: SMU hoops season tickets are up 50 percent?I have mixed emotions. Want there to be a big crowd for the team, but hate bandwagon turds

One step closer towards that coveted Wal-Mart fan!
Re: SMU hoops season tickets are up 50 percent?
While I agree with you about the bandwagon turds, many people in the Metroplex never really had an opportunity/incentive to attend our games. 1) Growing up in a Dallas suburb, I never remember any BB related promotions aimed at getting people to go to games. While I went to FB games (Mustang Mania Baby!!), I don't recall going to many BB games until I got on campus. 2) When I was a student, the FB team got the Death Penalty. Even though some of our teams were pretty decent, I don't recall the school making much effort to sell the program to students much less the outside world. 3) After the Pye Era really set in, I don't really remember any effort by SMU to sell the program to anyone. No commercials on The Ticket. No guest appearances on any of the sports radio shows. Nada, nothing, zilch. 4) Since 1999, I have lived in Connecticut. When I go home for the holidays, I normally take my nephews and father to a home game. Most years, that meant watching them play teams Prarie View or Soutwestern Mongolia Community College in front of "crowds" of hundreds of fans. Until this year's OSU game, I cannot recall seeing any promotion of any kind for any of the games. 5) If I was running the place, those Christmas games would have a "Bring you child for free" promotion. 6) If it didn't somehow violate NCAA rules, I would run an annual AAU/HS BB tournament (girls and boys) at Moody. Everyone in attendance would get a ticket to a SMU game. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: SMU hoops season tickets are up 50 percent?
Too bad you didn't go to Notre Dame. They don't have any bandwagon fans at all. 100% of the people who root for them and wear their gear everywhere all got at least one degree there!
Re: SMU hoops season tickets are up 50 percent? If you have a degree or two from SMU, you can jump on and jump off the bandwagon as many times as necessary as far as I'm concerned.
Re: SMU hoops season tickets are up 50 percent?
Most fans start off as bandwagon fans. The key is to keep them hooked so they become fans over the long-term. We have to deliver on the promise of success for that to happen.
Re: SMU hoops season tickets are up 50 percent?Right - because we are really in a position to be picky about what kind of fans we get? Ill take them however they come - bandwagon, walmart, ex TCU - doesn't matter - they are all welcome.
Re: SMU hoops season tickets are up 50 percent?
What exactly do you mean that statement? SMU-12 NCAA appearances, 1 Final Four
2014-15 & 2016-17 AAC Men's Basketball Champs
Re: SMU hoops season tickets are up 50 percent?
Pretty sure he's referring to the t-shirt fan the state school grads can't stand, who root for the team but have zero connection to the school other than buying the t-shirt. In our case, we would be happy to have t-shirt fans. ![]()
