from the Texarkana Gazette:

CLARKSVILLE, Texas-Defensive end Adrian Dizer, who was a big part of the resurrection of Clarksville's football program in 2004, Wednesday signed a letter-of-intent to continue his career with Southern Methodist University.

Dizer (6-5, 220) had 109 tackles, 10 quarterback sacks and four fumble recoveries to help the Tigers to a 9-2 record and their first playoff appearance in more than a decade. He is also a member of the Blue Tigers' basketball team, ranked No. 1 in the area and No. 3 in the state.

"Adrian also visited the University of Houston and Stephen F. Austin," said Clarksville coach Robert Manley. "He also drew interest from several other schools, but felt like SMU was his best fit."

Dizer's older brother, Marcus, is a defensive end with Texas A&M-Commerce.

Any chance he might try to walk-on with the basketball team?

I wondered that, too, but three things came to mind:

- I don't know if the coaches are eager to share a guy, considering they both are trying to improve their teams, and therefore would want players to concentrate full-time on their sport
- There's talk that the coaches are hoping he'll bulk up like his brother did, maybe even enough to move inside to DT, which would make it unlikely he'd be able to run enough in basketball
- As a grayshirt, he'll enroll in January 2006, and I highly doubt Coach Tubbs would want a guy who enrolls in mid-season.

Another reason I'd find it unlikely: at his height (6-5), he'd have to move to guard at SMU, which is a heck of a transition for a guy who plays in the frontcourt in HS. At a school that size, I bet he's the biggest guy on the team, if not in school. Learning to handle the ball and hit an occasionaly 3 might be too much to ask.

I just want him to get bigger and stronger and be ready when he gets to school next year!
