Orlando Sentinel Article on SMU
"SMU athletics director Steve Orsini stood by Jones, welcoming him back to the program despite his obvious interest elsewhere and SMU boosters’ desire to boot Jones. The support of Jones was rumored to have contributed to SMU President R. Gerald Turner’s decision to fire Orsini."
Interesting ...
SMU boosters desired to boot Jones? The support of Jones was rumored to have contributed to SO firing?

Gee...wonder who started that rumor...

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: Orlando Sentinel Article on SMU
That's great. The Orlando Sentinel knows the SMU roster better than the Dallas Morning News does.

I'm not buying this rumor. didn't several people write Jones wanted to leave because of SO?

No love lost between Jones and Orsini. It is my understanding from many people within the organization that Orsini teed off too many people with his run-over-his-mother management style. He finally suffered the consequences of his actions by dissing RGT too often. However, he did some very good things during his tenure here and will certainly land on his feet.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the beauty of the internet. Thanks Al Gore.
Re: Orlando Sentinel Article on SMU
What actually went down with Jones, Orsini, etc?
Who were the boosters for or against? What side did Turner take?

The Sentinel used to have a very knowledgeable female reporter covering CUSA. She wrote a lot of good stories about SMU and seemed more interested in the program than the DMN. The paper should be ashamed to report this kind of nonsense. i wonder what happened to the old beat writer?

Can you call this nonsense if no one has come forward with any credible report on why SO was fired?

Steve wants his money and he wants to look professional for the next job, Turner isn't talking, many know, but no one wants to talk about it--most certainly see it in print. Let's move on, welcome the new AD, but hold Turner accountable for the hire.
It does appear that as a result of another instance of SMU "eating its young", Turner and Jones have improved their relationship. I don't know, but it seems that way.

Re: Orlando Sentinel Article on SMU
Orsini got fired for being Orsini. If you had hired him and he pressed his interests over yours or the Univeristy's as aggressively as he has, the inevitable happens. The fact that no one has heard anything is consistant the DMN article. If the timing had anything to do with June Jones, it would have happened at a different point in the timeline. Besides, a good poker player cuts the deck.
I am looking forward to the new AD, Larry Brown and the return of June Jones. All I ask is that I can reenter Ford Stadium during the game and that we get rid of those stupid geldings.
