Jared Williams update
Running back Jared Williams, whose freshman season ended when he suffered three fractures in the femur bone in his left thigh during SMU's win over Pittsburgh in the BBVA Compass Bowl, said that while his rehab is going well, he expects to redshirt the 2012 season.
Williams said his rehab has gone well and that he is "pretty much pain-free," and that he has progressed to "some running ... like cone drills," but said he and his doctors agree that sitting out the upcoming season would be the sensible approach.
"We're going to take a year's pace," Williams said. "I've got to get the whole thing - including all of the muscle - healthy so I can perform again at the level I expect to."
Williams said his rehab regimen has included some work with weights - including leg press, quad extensions and hamstring curls - but he has not done any squats and has not tested his leg with "anything too heavy."
Williams spent the spring semester at home in Bradenton, Fla., but said that since his return to Dallas this summer, he has done his five-times-a-week rehab workouts in SMU's weight room.
"(Sitting at home) was a long time," Williams said. "I have been wanting to get back here. That's why I do all my rehab work here - to feel like part of the team again."

Nobody can approach PP's coverage of the Ponies.
More importantly, it's fantastic news to hear that Jared is running again. Who knows whether he'll play again, or whether he'll play effectively again. But just being healthy enough to get up and run a little ... that's great news. All the best, Jared.

Re: Jared Williams update
It's great to hear the recovery is continuing to go well for Jared. As tough as it will be for him to sit out this fall, I imagine it probably is the best option right now.
Hopefully Williams will be 100% ready to put it on 'em in 2013!

Smart move. Glad to hear the positive update.
Re: Jared Williams update
Hopefully we'll see him back on the field in 2013, and this extra year will give him a chance to get ahead of the game in the classroom as well.
Good luck Jared! Get well, we need you out there!

Third!
There will be time for football. Most important thing now is to get completely healed and focus on your education.

Jared Williams update
For Jared to even be at where he is currently is amazing. Best of luck in a full recovery, Jared.
