Found this on the Big East board...ESPN Disinformation Quote of the Week:

"If the Big East were to fold, Notre Dame would have to find a new home for its Olympic sports."

Fold? Who (other than ESPN) would make this claim?

May I ask ESPN why would they need to find new homes for its Olympic Sports? IF the BE folded it would be for FB only. It's arguably the best BB conference year end year out, even if you leave out the football schools. Moronic. Not to mention, IF that was the case for ND, wouldn't ND do everything in its power to make sure the BE survives? Wouldn't you think that if the BE implosion was imminent that ND would CONSIDER joining to be top dog and control the conference, instead of falling in line with some other team(s)/conference's wishes? It seems to me they don't need the conference money and have every desire to remain Independent and in control of their situation.

As a BB only conference: Marquette, ND, DePaul, Georgetown, St. Johns, Seton, Providence, and Villanova. All private catholic schools relatively close to each other.

Also worth noting that when the BE expanded they took CUSA schools with smaller fanbases in larger media markets over schools with larger fanbases in smaller media markets: SMU & UH instead of USM and ECU. This along with NBC's desire to expand further in the live sports market, which has become increasingly valuable as it is one of the last pieces of programming that people watch live (with commercials), means that the BE+NBC is set up for a major battle with ESPN for viewers. Don't expect ESPN to stop anytime soon. Right now they can get in as many jabs as they want without a rival media company swinging back.
