Since it is a .pdf, I couldn't post the text of the whackjob letter from Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship (the "Wackjobs").
To summarize:
1) the NCAA doesn't have the power to punish them since allowing a child rapist to use your showers with little boys is not against NCAA bylaws;
2) it was improper to base the NCAA's sanctions on the Sandusky criminal trial and the 267 page Freeh Report. The Wackjobs are investigating the findings and will get back to the NCAA with the legal and factual errors they plan on finding.
3) Since the Court of Arbitration of Sport found a Fifa internal investigation to be flawed, the NCAA's rush to judgment was improper.
Of course, the Wackjobs will never understand why PSU would chose to agree to the sanctions.

Don't they understand, with that attitude, they ARE the cover-up problem.

The university agreed to the sanctions. Since the NCAA is a voluntary organization, and agreed to the sanctions, I am not sure it matters what another group thinks.
And what will this group do to protect the university and St. Paterno when the civil suits start?

And THIS is my issue with the sanctions handed down. If the point of Emmert and the Executive Board acting quickly and unilaterally to lay down sanctions so severe as to supposedly change the culture at PSU, then they failed miserably. As others have said, they set a dangerous precedent that is quickly becoming more the story than the sanctions themselves, plus once players announce their intentions, the story shifts again to simply one of how PSU Football will be able to compete. The true victims in all this will get completely lost, and the JoePa cult of personality machine will kick into high gear and fight nonsense issues, further distracting and blurring the issue.
Plus, with the exception of the immediate transferability of players, I don't think any of the sanctions listed are insurmountable nor do they do anything to change the mentality. $60 Mil over a 5 year period - that's a few deep pocketed donors, not a major setback. No bowl games - OK, so these kids won't be seen in December; they still get to be on TV ALL SEASON LONG! Vacating wins has always seemed beyond useless in my mind; changing numbers in a book does nothing but tarnish a dead man's legacy (which already has bigger problems anyway). Scholarship losses - USC found a way around that pretty quick; no doubt someone at PSU is on the phone to Pete Carroll in Seattle to figure out how he did it. 5 year probation - pretty sure the background checks are about to get a bit tougher for new hires; if they hire and enable another serial pedophile in the next half CENTURY everyone associated with the administration of that school should be kicked to the curb. Once again, the NCAA puts on a pretty show to seem tough but with no real teeth. Folks in Happy Valley will cry for a few days, and then move on and nothing will be learned.

The Coach whose name is Unmentionable, along with Number 5, had everything to do with USC's sanctions and NOTHING to do with maintaining the motivation and desire of the players to perform at a high level even with the scholarship reductions and the bowl ban sanctions! He was too busy getting out of town before the posse arrived.
Lane Kiffin and Pat Haden are the architects of USC continuing its winning tradition even though the scholarship sanctions are still in effect.

I think you are asking the NCAA to do the impossible. They are not capable of changing this culture, this terrible fix we have got ourselves into. This Country by worshipping the almighty dollar has gotten itself into a black hole where character and morality have little value.. If someone is making big bucks then anything is okay. And that drifts down to every part of our lives, even football. No this is bigger than the NCAA! Personally, I think they did pretty well this time.

Exactly, everyone wants to blame the NCAA for the gutter rats in the Coaching Profession and the leaches in the satelite imdusties of coaching combines, Professional agents/runners and shoe companies. The NCAA continually tries to close recruiting and academic loopholes but the gutter-rats and the leeches will always look to cut corners. They don't have subpoena power and are deliberately understaffed by the NCAA (many of which would rather sweep this stuff under table). Hell the NCAA has about half the Top 10 programs on serious probation right now or soon will be. Its just a dirty business right now made worse by following the Basketball recruiting Model-that's not really the NCAA's fault. Emmert's made some great changes in academic requirements that will be phased in over the next few years-but I'm sure Coaches right now are busy trying to find ways to circumvent them

Check this out if you do not think this program and Paterno were out of control. Remember in 2006 PSU president told the university compliance officer that football players were not "student athletes" and subject to university rules, regulations, honor code and sanction. The President ordered that JoPA would review and handle all diciplinary matters as he was in a better position to handle football players.

After reading some of their message blogs, the NCAA should have hammered their program with a 4 year "death penalty." They actually have the gall to compare the sanctions as PSU's 9/11... Just SMH in amazement at their stupidity.

The more I hear about this the more disgusting it is. They were hardly even penalized! I am honestly sick to my stomach.
