They won 8 games and were in a BCS bowl, but they weren't competing for a championship.

We'll get to a point where there's a 16 team playoff and a slew of 9-3 teams are qualifying which waters it down completely. It bothers me when a 9-7 New York Giants team wins the Superbowl or a 83 win St. Louis Cardinals team wins the World Series. I just really like the idea of a team having no margin for error.
By voting 2 teams in it is a huge margin of error. Auburn was undefeated one year and did not get a shot at the national championship. That is a major margin of error. Coachic politic to get votes etc. Penn State had one loss and SMU had none but Paterno was politicing for votes and PSU got the sympathy vote. Thank goodness we have a stop to the madness. BCS was a cartel (it violated the Sherman anti-trust act) that had a bogus voting system. Sounds like you have read the BCS site talking points that we are against a playoff and memorized them.

The year when Auburn missed out is great example of what I'm saying. That was a very interesting year because of the ongoing discussion.

How?
your arguing agaisnt a playoff, but the arguments your using would be in agreement for why someone would want a playoff.

It was not fair to Auburn. If all you want to do is discuss then that is an idiot's argument not a solution to the problem.

And why are you so agaisnt money? SMU's stadium was built with money, would you rather bring a lawn chair to the stadium and sit in the grass?
And how is NCAA football not filled with money the way things are now? I dont understand your logic.

I think it's awesome when great teams miss the playoffs. It never happens in other sports because they've expanded playoff formats so much.BuckeyeBomber wrote:zimo wrote:The year when Auburn missed out is great example of what I'm saying. .

Auburn did not miss the playoffs because there were no playoffs then.

You do realize there is a Top 25 in college football right? Were talking about 8 of those teams going to an 8 team playoff, leaving lots of good teams not making it in.
And why do you want great teams being left out of a championship, when they deserve to play for a championship? I dont understand what your line of thinking is.
Re: BCS playoff system
It was a single elimination two team playoff.
The bottom line is if there was an 8 team tournament, teams ranked 5-8 would commonly win. It would come down to what amounts to a series of coin tosses like all playoffs do to determine the national championship. I like having one sport where that doesn't happen.

Teams rank 5-8 winning? What are you talking about! If they win they then become Number 1!
I think your making way to much out of that little number next to a teams name as if it should be set in stone.
Whats wrong with a 5th ranked team knocking off a #1 team? How is that not fun! #5 teams are very good teams. There is 120 teams in college sports. #5 teams are good enough to beat #1 ranked teams.
So if a team is the #5 team , but had a star player injured in the beginning of the season and had a shakey start, hence them being #5 and not #1; they dont deserve to play for the #1 spot?
Why even play the season...How about we send the teams ranked #1 and #2 in the preseason polls to the national championship tommorow and just skip the entire season.
your insane!

Re: BCS playoff system
Ok I think I know what you dont like...
Ok see the way I proposed these bowls be played in my original post....
What if in round 3 of my proposition the teams are ranked #1 and #2. Is this what you dont like? I just thought it would be trivial to rank teams once they went to the playoffs...
Also I thought it would be fun if teams took their First Round rank into the National Championship game so you could seehow far they came to make it to the National Championship.

Only a fool trying to upgrade to an idiot would have that argument. I am going to take it that you are just trying to keep this thread going by provoking responses by those ridiculous posts you are making so more posters will not go to cp.com. If you are it is having the opposite effect with me. Now we have a BCS Travis Bickle.
