I still think many highschoolers don't know Larry Brown, but everyone who would advise them, coaches, parents, etc, are telling them of his merit in the basketball world.

A friend's 16 yo gym rat son is ecstatic having just learned that Bob Weiss is moving into his neighborhood.

This is a sample of one, but my guess is that if Bob Weiss has some name i.d. among high school hoopers, Larry Brown does as well.

I really doubt there are many 18 year old basketball players that haven't heard of Larry Brown. He was coaching in the NBA 2 years ago with Charlotte, and 7 years ago with the Knicks. I'm pretty sure all basketball playing kids are watching NBA games when they are 10 or 11, and certainly when they are 15 or 16. They probably don't know of the championships and how great he is, but they know who he is.

You'd be surprised. After spending most of July on the road, its the AAU guys, parents and handlers that know him, which is much of the battle. Doesn't hurt that the other NCAA coaches treat him like a rock star.

Thanks for picture.

BTW, a couple of years, I sat next to LB on a flight from Chicago and we had a great conversation. He appreciated my doing a lot of talking, since he was a nervous flyer.

He is very down to earth and we talked mostly non-basketball, e.g. family stuff. He thanked me and appreciated my keeping his mind off flying. Knowing that, I admire his commitment to travel heavily for SMU. Great guy, as well as coach. 8)
