No reason to schedule them in football. none at all

we should however schedule them in baseball. We may be late, and if so they should go ahead and start without us.

I wish Rice well, old SWC nemesis that they were.

The MOB was much, much better in the 1970s. They haven' been very inventive or funny for a long, long time.

I mourn the end of all former SWC relationships. Arkansas, A&M, TT, Baylor, TCU, UT, Rice all former conference mates of long lineage, now just memories. Oh well, let's make new memories with UConn, Rutgers, USNA, Boise, SDS, Louisville, Cincy, USF, UCF and others.

Disagree. One of the reasons BU is scheduling them is another regional home & home with a high likelihood of a win to help with bowl eligibility & reaching out to Houston alumni. I think SMU would benefit from a similar approach.

We already play Houston every year and it's clear by the butts in seats that no one on either side cares about SMU vs. Rice. Plus we have a home and home with Denton High starting in 2014, so if we want another easy win it makes more sense to just buy a FCS game rather than waste that slot on Rice. Like gostangs said, there's no reason at all to schedule Rice in football.

SMU talking about dropping Rice? That sounds about right. TCU has been talking about dropping SMU for quite some time. What comes around goes around. (yea I know - scoreboard).

SMU/TCU is a sure sellout. SMU/Rice is a ghost town.

That being said, I'd like to see Rice replace any FCS opponents we have in the future.

Rice was dropped the second we got in the Big East, as were the rest of the left-behinds. If you Toads had any sense you would have dropped us years ago instead of just yapping about it. However, Fatterson did vow to stop helping us so that might expedite things on that front.

I will miss Rice's stadium, probably one of my favorites in CFB.
But that's about it. Time to move up and onward. Wish them the best, though.

As for TCU dropping SMU, why would we want to do that ? To avoid a loss? It's a nice short road trip to Dallas for TCU.

So you don't want to drop us, but you hammer us for wanting to drop rice when they

are a 4 hr. drive and don't draw well.

Why wouldn't TCU drop SMU? As far as I can tell SMU is the only one benefiting from the game. Big time programs don't schedule long-term home and home series with lesser programs in lesser conferences. They either schedule buy a win games against bottom feeders or home and home/neutral site games with equal or greater programs. Clearly someone over there is thinking big time with future home and homes with LSU and Arkansas, dropping SMU seems like the next logical step in that process.
