Football Kickoff Luncheon
Would love to hear from those that went, once they return, what the experience was like. Anything of interest, who you sat with, food, sound bites -- anything would be great.

I would love to tell you all about it. However, I was in Frog Worth today of all places for lunch. Not feeling well.
Re: Football Kickoff Luncheon
This was my 5th year going to this luncheon and I think it was the best one yet. The new hotel is very nice. The menu was meatloaf and potato substitute with green beans maybe?? Wasn't too bad. Rich Phillips interviewed DJ, Margus, Taylor and Zach on stage which was very entertaining. JJ's interview was very informative. We had Jeremy Johnson and Kevin Pope at our table. Great guys! The new unis are fine I just wish the Mustang was bigger than the swoosh. There must have been at least 1400 people there. Largest crowd I have seen at this function. Can't wait for September 2nd.

Sat with Taylor Reed and what a well spoken and genuine guy. Speaks well of his team. We also spoke about grades and graduation schedule.
Big looking for what he weighs!
Hotel is top notch and food was great. Sure hope Margus does well as he presents himself well to all he meets.
JJ (and his staff) must know how to teach as the recruits are not always offered by big 10, 11, 12 .. but they grow and learn and WIN.

Re: Football Kickoff Luncheon
We had three players at our table. They were all really good kids (kids is a relative term because they are really young men).
We had:
1) Brandon Henderson. Good kid. Solid "Buck" ILB - can't wait to see him play. Very respectful to everyone at the table. Made sure he always said 'sir' to everyone. I could not help but be glad he got a second chance to come back to the team.
2) Rishaad Wimbley. I would not want to be in this guys way while he is running down field. He said he's currently lost 40 lbs and now at 257#. The guy is very strong and has huge legs.
3) Cameron Smith. Another great kid. Very respectful of everyone at the table. Another big kid. Since he's a soph. he may not get much time on our D-line this year sine we seem to have good depth.
The speeches were good and it was nice to see the 4 players put in front and do the Q/A period. D.J., Margus, T. Reed and Z.Line all up front. They emphasized that teamwork is very important and they were not thinking about themselves and their stats - they just want to win.
This was my first year going but it will not be my last by any means. I'm very glad I got to go and meet some of the players. It was good to see how big these guys are in real life. The new O-line kids that we just recruited are all huge and they were a great investment in our future team.
Anyway, I would recommend going next year for anyone that did not go. The food was good (meatloaf, mac&cheese, carrots and asparagus).
The football players all laughed when I tried to eat the desert. We all thought it was a very large slice of cheesecake but it turned out to be angel food cake. They had tried it first and wanted to see what my reaction would be.

Re: Football Kickoff Luncheon
Thanks for the luncheon reports! Keep 'em coming!
I would have gone, but I was "stuck" at the beach in Santa Barbara today.

For anyone that went, what did the pants looks like (stripes, no stripes, etc.).

See uniform thread, no stripes on pants.
Re: Football Kickoff Luncheon
I was there...good venue and good food. I liked where June said he wants to kick TCU's [deleted]! Also DJ said about GG...'I've been waiting for someone like that for 3 years!

Thanks I just saw them on TV. The uniforms really don't look too bad.

Re: Football Kickoff Luncheon
Interesting statements: JJ said that he had been telling Orsini and now Rick that a non-BCS team needs an easier OOC schedule to make it to a BCS Bowl. Can we win those big 3 games this year? Sure he answered, it's possible. When asked who they most want to beat this year, 2 of the 4 players on stage replied Tulsa! I now think we will win that game. Sounds like last year left a nasty taste, doesn't it? One vote for TCU and one for Houston. Also, JJ said we have adequate back up for JR and that the Oline is coming along nicely. Good news that.

But we are still TCUs Superbowl
