If SMU joined...Big 12 alignment
If SMU and Houston joined the Big 12 in the future, this would be the best alignment; Zipper style separation of Divisions. Schools would play everyone in their division plus four from the other division. Would have permanent rivalry games each year between divisions (i.e. SMU v tcu, etc.)
Division 1
Texas
Oklahoma State
Kansas State
Houston
Iowa State
SMU
Division 2
Oklahoma
Texas Tech
West Virginia
Baylor
Kansas
TCU

Re: If SMU joined...Big 12 alignment
I think before this becomes a possibility we MUST beat Baylor, TCU and A&M this year. Once the other conferences see that we can beat them then we would have 'value'. Right now there is no 'value' for the Big 12 to add SMU. The only team they have said would be valuable to add to their conference is Notre Dame - that's it. That's why the Big 12 didn't pursue Fl. St. and/or Clemson yet. There is no reason to add them financially.
Other than that, I do like your idea. It would bring a lot of the old SWC back and the old rivalries would be re-born.

The only way we're ever getting into the Big 12 is if it becomes a diluted pseudo-major desperate to add markets no matter how little value the programs in those markets bring. We'll never be in the same conference with Texas ever again.

Agree. It's time to move on. We may have a better deal than most realize right now in the BEast. The lil12 doesn't want us & that's fine so move on.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Such an irrelevant topic....what would it be like if Gisele left Tom Brady to get with me? Roughly equal to slightly better chance of that ever becoming reality.
We will never be a member of the Big 12 as it is currently constructed..sure, if Texas, OU, OSU, and Tech leave it's a possibility, but that's an entirely different discussion.
Move on....we beat this to death about a year ago.

Florida St (especially) and Clemson would add plenty of "value" to the Big 12-that's not why they weren't added. A flagship school in the 3rd most populated state doesn't add TV value?

Can the webmasters remove this thread?

I never could understand the need to start playing with teams that beat us during our darkest hour then basicly left SMU for dead. Can some one explain that to me.

Re: If SMU joined...Big 12 alignment
As long as Texas is part of the big 12 SMU will never be allowed to join. We beat them at cheating and embarrassed them on the playing field. So lets make the Big East something to be proud of and move on.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Wow, a lot of give-up here, guys.
Truth is, UNTIL SMU is back with UT, we are not back.
The Big 12/16 or SEC MUST be SMU's ultimate goal.
Screw Texas. Get so good, they HAVE to look at us.

Be glad to. Payback. Massive motivation - for the players AND the fans.

Wrong. The Big Least is a mirage. Regional is where it's at - and always will be.
