2012-13 SMU Basketball Schedule Announced
Larry Brown Era Opens Nov. 11

Aug. 21, 2012

DALLAS (SMU) --- The SMU men's basketball (@SMUBasketball) team announced its 2012-13 schedule on Tuesday. The Mustangs' first non-conference schedule under head coach Larry Brown (@LarryBrownSMU) could include up to nine games against teams from the Big 12, Pac-12, A-10, Mountain West, West Coast Conference, SEC and Missouri Valley. SMU is also part of the Hoops for Hope Classic and the 46th annual Cable Car Classic. The Ponies' home slate has 14 games at Moody Coliseum, which is undergoing a $40-million renovation.

SMU's campaign begins with nine games in 21 days. The Mustangs (@SMUMustangs) opener is at Moody Coliseum against Loyola Marymount on Sunday, Nov. 11, before a pair of road games at TCU (Nov. 15) and at Texas State (Nov. 17). Then the Mustangs play four games in the Hoops for Hope Classic; the first two at home on Nov. 19 and Nov. 21. The final two games are in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Nov. 24-25 with possible matchups against South Carolina, Missouri State or UALR. The Mustangs finish the early portion by hosting Utah on Nov. 28 and a contest at Hofstra on Dec. 1.

After a break for final exams, SMU has a four-game road trip that begins at Rhode Island on Dec. 15, continues at Utah on Dec. 18 and concludes at the Cable Car Classic hosted by Santa Clara on Dec. 21-22. The Mustangs return home to finish the non-conference schedule by hosting Furman (Dec. 30) and Wyoming (Jan. 2).

The Mustangs' final Conference USA schedule includes two matchups against UTEP, Houston, Tulsa, Tulane and Rice. The single-game matchups are road games against UAB, Marshall and UCF as well as home contests against Memphis, East Carolina and Southern Miss. The Conference USA Championship is in Tulsa from March 13-16. The league schedule begins at home against Tulsa on Sunday, Jan. 6.

All SMU basketball games are broadcast on the Mustangs Radio Network; which includes the flagship KAAM 770 AM in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and SMUMustangs.com. I don't know, I kind of miss being introduced to new schools I had never heard of before they appeared on an SMU basketball schedule. I recognize all of these schools...

You guys are funny. There are no high majors on that entire schedule, and its SOS/RPI is going to be awful. Overall its more competitive, just b/c of a the increase in mids, but its still mostly a joke

I agree, but at least LB was smart enough to schedule some mids up in the NE, so that he can drop in on some NYC recruits.

You're right. But I like the part where there are no D-111 schools and teams from decent conferences.

Given the changes the team is going through, it seems about "right" for a team that needs to completely revamp everything. While the out of conference games don't include the Duke's of the world, I was very happy to recognize the name of every university on the list.

It's a start.

Plus, I'll get to go to the URI and Hofstra games. Easy drive from my house.

Hoop Max, you know RPI is a funny thing. Hofstra is in the CAA. Rhode Island in the Atlantic 10 both mid conferences with good RPI's. Thus as I understand it, wins over a CAA team which wins some CAA games gets you credit for those wins in the crazy RPI formula. So, if Hofstra manages to win games against VCU or George Mason (or other teams that managed to beat VCU or George Mason), we'll get some of that credit if we beat Hofstra. I am a bit saddened that we didn't get some BE teams on the schedule just to introduce ourselves.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
