Tailgating suggestions for int'l visitor

Post by Cygone »

Hi,

We're two guys heading over from Sweden to watch some football, and since we're in town (NYG@DAL...) and you seem to be a friendly bunch we'd like to go to the Memphis @ SMU game (Oct. 27th). Now I wonder if you could help me out with suggestions for tailgating? We for obvious reasons won't be able to bring a bbq with all the bells and whistles, but would enjoy getting in on the fun somehow... do we just show up at the Boulevard with a case of beer or two?

As for tickets, suggestions on which section to buy tickets for are welcome!

Buy a 12 pack of good beer and walk to the Boulevard. For Memphis I will be doing some sort of pig BBQ. Show up and start meeting people. You have to wear Red and Blue and be friendly.
Look for the BUS Stop ... right next door to the Special Delivery Truck and tent. I bet they will share what they have prepared also.

As for tickets. Go online and use your credit card and have them mailed to you in advance.

Go Mustangs.

The Memphis game is our Homecoming, so there will be lots going on on the Boulevard.

You are also welcome at the Friends of the Tailgate tent (actually 4 tents set up together), which is a little south of Bus and Special Delivery. We'll have several tvs and satellite hookups. Not sure what the menu will be, but there is no need for you to bring anything to come by. We have plenty of food and drink.

Hope you have a fun time!

Sounds awesome, the Boulevard it is, then! The tickets are in Fedex hands and all seems set. Is the party still on post-game?

Yes! On the Blvd and then spilling into the bars nearby - easy taxi ride.

We need to do a better job, frankly, of encouraging/allowing post game Boulevarding. Whenever I head back for a post game beverage or two, the place is usually devoid of people.

We have done a good job loitering on the blvd after games

He also might want to consider the new "Mustang Corral" for the general public which is going to be by McFarlin Aud.

This is new to me. Is the Mustang Coral a tent with food and drinks anyone can participate? I know people say just walk on up to my tent but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that. A welcoming common area for out of towners and maybe non SMU alumni, without a group connection,,can fell at ease participating with the Boulevard experience

Correct, general population area - cash bar. People say "just walk the blvd" - most would feel like an outsider, yes.

We should post a tailgating thread before the home games, in addition to the official prediction and game threads. Ponyfans could post everyone's tailgate location so that the out of towners and visitors (Including our opposition visitors) who check out ponyfans know where there are some friendly faces.

Lots of us already know each other, but those who are new or out of town might want to come by and introduce themselves. It would definitely be better than just randomly stopping by tents. Of course, the new corral helps for the general public, but for those who have taken the time to visit ponyfans, it would be cool to be able to stop by and have a drink with fellow ponyfans. It would also allow us to put a name with a face, if you haven't already.

When I was working on Thad's video project, it was great to have people give me their location so I could come by and say hi. I think others would enjoy that opportunity as well.

Just a thought.

Must have a game ticket to enter. Tickets will be sold at door. Entrance comes with a couple free drink tickets as well, plus cash bar. TVs to watch marquee games, A/C for the first few games.

That would be nice, I'd like to meet some of the people here.
